RE: Coach Austin - ochocincos - 10-22-2018 Didn't think I'd say this, but could Kevin Coyle come back and be the new DC? He'd be an upgrade over Austin IMO. RE: Coach Austin - WeezyBengal - 10-22-2018 Over the past ten years I always thought the Bengals had a respectable, above average, defense. Maybe not elite (that 20125 defense was elite, imo) but pretty good none the less. This is the first time I can remember in a long time where the defesne is just flat out awful. With the players they have on that side of the ball, there is no excuse for them playing the way they have been playing. Heads need to roll. Austin was rumored to be a DBs specialist, having been a DBs coach, prior to making the jump to coordinator. RE: Coach Austin - BoomerFan - 10-22-2018 We need the Bill Lazor equivalent on defense to come in after we fire Austin who seems to be the Ken Zampese equivalent. Or really, just anyone who can teach some basic freaking tackling. Why even have a defense if you aren't going to tackle? RE: Coach Austin - Fan_in_Kettering - 10-22-2018 This defense allows 29 points per game. That’s worse than bad. "Creating Turnovers", don't you at least have to be near a receiver to create a turnover? I swear they could take some schlub, setting in row 3 and let him play QB against our D and as wide open as receivers are, he'd look like an NFL QB... RE: Coach Austin - Fan_in_Kettering - 10-22-2018 The only turnovers this defense creates come from a box in the freezer section at Kroger. RE: Coach Austin - J24 - 10-22-2018 He is hamstrung by the LBers that can't cover and can't play in space. What the hell was Duke thinking in signing Brown. Also Jefferson needs to sink or swim;Play the kid! Williams tackles better than our LB's, anyways, so it's not like we'd be losing that much against power runs. RE: Coach Austin - XsandOs - 10-22-2018 The issue last night was the offense. KC was expected to put up the yards and points. As Collinsworth pointed out, they have done it against good teams in NFL this year - Patriots, Pitt, Jags, Chargers. The difference in those games was that their offenses gave their defense at least a breather. It's time to regroup and look at both schemes..... and the OL and DL. The bye can't come any sooner. I was thinking the same thing, Willams has never been a good saftey and did well as a nickle linebacker a few years ago. Also thought Jordan Evans was supposed to be a fast undersized nickle linebacker that could run and cover ? Honestly thought that was the plan at the beginning of the year after we drafted Bates but instead we Cut Iloka and there goes are 3 safety looks. Never understood that move. RE: Coach Austin - Joelist - 10-22-2018 Unfortunately the past three games the OL has come crashing to earth. Hopkins is in over his head and Redmond and Hart are lost out there. Even Glenn has had bad plays and last night Boling looked bad too. Add in the loss of Eifert, Gio and now Ross (who limped off almost immediately after his first game back was started) and right now we have a badly gimped offense. Defensively it is a combination of injuries (LB, Secondary) and poor scheme putting players in the wrong spots and playing the wrong type of defense. I said after the Carolina fiasco that Austin needed to be fired immediately; I still think he does. It literally does not matter who you bring in - ANYONE could do better. He preaches turnovers but yet we play soft coverage and we allow QBs easy short completions. You have to be aggressive at the line of scrimmage in this game and he simply isn't. Never understood that move. Here's the thing. I've never thought of Williams as a good tackler. If anything, I've always been critical of him trying to land kill shots, rather than wrapping up, or making plays on the ball. (oddly enough, I saw that he DID get an INT last night) RE: Coach Austin - I_C_DeadPeople - 10-22-2018 (10-22-2018, 01:14 PM)Jakeypoo Wrote: I don't understand Austin philosophy at all. I dont think ML lets him be aggressive. When Guenther was promoted to DC, one of the players said he was excited because Guenther was often the designer of the defenses blitz schemes that Zimmer called. But we saw little of that when he was DC. Now we see little aggressive play calling from a so called aggressive coordinator. This has ML stink all over it. RE: Coach Austin - Fullrock - 10-22-2018 Y'all better get used to Austin. He ain't going anywhere. He was brought in to be the next head coach. I do hope that you are just blowing off some frustration, as that would seem to be a move for the worst.. |
