At one point we had a few of those up here in the Dayton area. They may still have one in Centerville, I'm not sure, but the rest have closed. It was okay, but there were always better choices available, so we didn't go there much. I'm not a Cincinnati native, so I didn't grow up with LaRosa's, but we know someone who did, and he claims it's not the same quality as it was 30-40 years ago. I'd be interested to hear if any other long-timers feel that way or not so much. We lost our Goldstar not long ago, too. Fortunately, we still have multiple Skyline and Graeter's shops open ![]() RE: Things To Do in Cincinnati? - Sled21 - 01-04-2022 There's also an Aquarium in Newport, since it's probably too cold for the world class zoo. It males me laugh when I read people say to to "Over the Rhine." When I left Cincinnati, that place was a regular slaughterhouse. I’ve been eating it all my life, and it’s no better or worse than it ever was. There’s much better pizza in town if you know where to go. Adriatico's in Clifton is probably my favorite. OTR is still plenty dangerous in certain areas, but there’s also a ton of trendy restaurants, breweries, bars, etc. RE: Things To Do in Cincinnati? - higgy100 - 01-04-2022 (01-04-2022, 01:26 PM)Nicomo Cosca Wrote: LaRosa’s is fine. Don’t listen to this philistine. Last time LaRosa’s was any good Mason, OH was a prairie.. I'm too far north and miss all the Cincy area food that I like unless I buy canned Skyline which is good, but not the same. I had LaRosa's a couple years ago and still loved it but maybe it was nostalgia kicking in. Graeter's ice cream is good because you can pretty much buy it at grocery stores nation wide. RE: Things To Do in Cincinnati? - jason - 01-04-2022 Northside is a pretty cool neighborhood to post up in for a bit. I usually go every 2-3 years to visit family. We went down to Rhinegeist and I saw a young woman jogging alone by Washington Park after dark. I did a double take. I was shocked the area had turned around like it had. Now it's a totally gentrified area with some great breweries. Still makes me second guess every time someone says OTR is a place to hang out, though! And yes, the aquarium in Newport is awesome. RE: Things To Do in Cincinnati? - Goalpost - 01-04-2022 Winter does slow things down around here. Cold weather diminishes our park system, some of which have lakes, and all of them have nice golf courses. Kings Island is not an option. Riverbend is a nice concert venue but again that's outdoors. I would probably make an appearance at Hard Rock Casino. Montgomery ribs would be a nice meal. This made me laugh. I didn't grow up in Mason but close enough that I remember it being a middle of nowhere place. My youth baseball team would crush the Mason team. Now, based on it's size and the such, I'm guessing Mason fields some super talented youth baseball squads. It's very safe now, even at night (maybe not in the wee hours of the morning). My daughter lives there and she feels very safe. If those kids knew how much blood was soaked into that wooden floor, they'd run off into the night screaming. The best parts are the friendly people, great food and drinks. In addition, Cincinnati also has a world-class arts scene, between the museums, ballet, theater, symphony, etc. But for people who travel to cities for "experiences" or adventure, it's definitely not that kind of place, especially in the winter. I think going in with the right expectation makes it a fun city to visit, much the same way as Minneapolis or St Louis. Have a good trip! Definitely going to check out some Museums for sure! Get a cheese coney with the hot dog/chili/cheese and then decide if you want the mustard and onions. Also enjoy a 3-way... heh heh heh. It's just spaghetti, chili and cheese. Be prepared, a zillion calories of cheese. The nice thing is that Skyline or Gold Star aren't too expensive so if you dislike the food you can still afford to go eat elsewhere.
