Looking forward to him being 100%, getting Jackson, Hill, Rankins and Murphy back.I think this defense is about to turn the corner when we start getting some of these guys on the field. Still early, but I've been happy with what he's shown so far. God knows, we need to finally hit on one of these early DL picks. Not sure many here will like this but Edwards showed up big on one play. RE: Jenkins, Jr. - PDub80 - 09-30-2024 Lou's heavy DB, 5-2 scheme requires the D Line to pressure the QB into mistakes... The Bengals don't have that this year. Even fully healthy, the line projects to be mid tier at best. Silver Lining: The offense is just getting going. The Bengals should be high scoring, making a middle of the road defense viable. RE: Jenkins, Jr. - J24 - 09-30-2024 Seems like a more athletic prime Peko!(which is a compliment and not an insult) His pass rush does need some work but that can happen in time. Jenkins is a pass rushing DT, not a NT run stopper. Peko was NT run stopping fat guy at 325 & limited to no pass rush. Jenkins is a more of a pass rushing DT with a combine weight of 299lbs.... which he bulked up for. Their other DT they took in this draft, Jackson, is the Reader/Peko/Sam Adams style DT. Peko was a NT. 3 Tech is the pass-rushing DT. NT is run stopping. I was typing and mixed the 2 up. Good catch! I edited to make it correct. Also, I think he will eventually be a pretty decent pass rusher but never an elite one. So we got a guy with limited pass rush playing the pass rush DT position but who is good at stopping the run not playing the run stopping DT position. Nice. Just because Jenkins is a great run stopper it doesn't make him a Nose Tackle. And he has high upside to where he can become an elite pass rusher. Long arms, extremely athletic, strong etc. RE: Jenkins, Jr. - J24 - 09-30-2024 (09-30-2024, 04:59 PM)WeezyBengal Wrote: So we got a guy with limited pass rush playing the pass rush DT position but who is good at stopping the run not playing the run stopping DT position. Nice. He's going to be a nice rotation piece for years to come. I wouldn't be worried about him at all! He's probably going to play all over the line once his career gets moving. I wouldn't pigeon hole him into either 3T or NT. Let's say, hypothetically the Bengals view Kris as DJ Reader's replacement. DJ played 8 snaps per a game at NT last season for us. He only played 12 snaps per a game at NT in 2021. So DJ played the majority of his snaps as a 3T and not NT. As far as his pass rush ability, I think he will eventually he will be a good pass rusher but not an elite pass rusher. I don't think they had a pressure or a run stop behind the line of scrimmage other than the goalline stand the entire game. LOL.I felt same...although I share the enthusiasm for Jenkins we got gashed again for alot of rushing yds and ZERO sacks and NO PRESSURE And now we have Derrick Henry coming in after getting 200 YDS last night VS Buff. RE: Jenkins, Jr. - Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 - 10-01-2024 We just need a DT to push the pocket back some. Make the QB uncomfortable. A ton of sacks isn't needed. You are going by PFF charting? Nose Tackle by alignment is only the 0-tech. 1-tech which is a tilted nose tackle is classified as a LDT or RDT (over or under alignments). Nose Tackle in general refers to the player eating the majority double teams in the A-Gaps no matter the alignment. DJ Reader was so good he could play a gap and a half from the 2i. Yes sir, hope McKinnley Jackson can grow into this for us down the road. RE: Jenkins, Jr. - Joelist - 10-01-2024 Just remember we have yet to see the DT room that was planned to be in play this year. We've either had both Jenkins and Jackson out (first 2 games) or both Hill and Rankins out (last 2 games). Hopefully Hill at least is ready to play so we are deploying Jenkins, Hill, Guy and Tufele. Murphy sounds like he will be back so that gives us DEs of Trey, Murphy, Hubbard and Johnson. Yeah, I'm happy to see DJ healthy and doing well, just wish it was still for the Bengals. Even before the injury, I had next to zero expectations of anything big, production wise from McKinley Jackson for at least half of the season. Now that he's missed 4 games already, getting him on the field, even for a handful of downs each game will be critical for his development.
