RE: Welcome back Cam Sample - ochocincos - 03-14-2025 Guy has been good in 2021-2023 for about a couple sacks and around 20 total pressures each season. He's about the same contributions as Myles Murphy, pressures and snaps wise. If people don't think Murphy is anything worthwhile, they shouldn't think Sample is either. To me, Sample is competing with Johnson for final DE spot, as I have to think Bengals are very, very likely drafting a DE early in the draft. The difference I see, is that following Cam's time here he seemed to have improved each year whereas I haven't seen much improvement from Murphy at all. He looks the same on his last play as he did on his first. I ask because his first two years in the league were about the same, production wise. 2021 - 310 snaps for 1.5 sacks and 16 total pressures 2022 - 411 snaps for 2.0 sacks and 16 total pressures It wasn't until his 3rd season he boosted his pressures (2023 - 375 snaps for 1.5 sacks and 22 total pressures). Murphy hasn't played a 3rd season yet, so we can just compare their first two years: Murphy 2023 - 304 snaps for 3.0 sacks and 15 total pressures Murphy 2024 - 353 snaps for 0 sacks and 20 total pressures So Murphy fewer snaps played, with 1.5 sack less but 3 total pressures more compared to Sample's first two years. Also, if you actually are able to remember specific backup players in games from 2-3 years ago to 100% recall if they improved over time or not, I give props to you for having such a good memory. I don't watch the games that closely or watch reruns to analyze the players that closely, especially those who had little impact on the team those years. I still remember Brandon Thompson's coming out party in 2013 against the Browns, when we saw his lightning first step, first-hand (though that was easily the most-miserable game of that year, outside of the playoff game). The thing about Cam Sample is he is just solid and gives his all and he stops the run very well and when asked is a good pass rusher too, solid is not a bad thing at all. He brings it with a good motor, maybe not to Cedric Johnson's level that I saw late last year, but he is a good pro. These are good back of the depth chart signings and when they improve every year that is a great sign especially with Murphy regressing a bit last year due to gaining too much muscle IMO. Montgomery could get some good stuff out of Cam Sample, but Joseph Ossai is the End I see growing the most under him. (2 hours ago)Truck_1_0_1_ Wrote: I do and I know Nate does too. Yeah I remember Truck. I go back and watch the games too to see these types of players. Also remember Brandon Thompson's first step. Cam Sample is an underrated player that is growing in his game. He is already solid technique wise, that is the start. |
