Because, despite being the most consistent team over a period of 4 and a half decades, they still come nowhere close to the organization the Patriots are and have been since 2001, who win EVEN when Tom Brady DOESN'T play!!

Secondly: The Pats have missed the playoffs once in the last 14 years. Guess what happened that year.

They won 3 out of the 4 games without Brady this year and probably would have gone 4-0 had the 2nd and 3rd QBs not gotten hurt.
Brady also went 15-1 in 2007 and lost to a Giants 10-6 team in the SB.

I agree with Bfine. And I have nothing negative to say about Dalton. It's just that Ben is one badass quarterback. He's incredibly tough, has great vision, a cannon arm and you can't get him down. He can get hit three times, still be on his feet and fire a rope 35 yards down field and hit somebody in the numbers.
They have other very good players, but you take Ben out of there and they come back to the pack.

The Steelers' offensive scheme hasn't changed since Chuck Noll left Pittsburgh and the only major change the Steelers have made since 1980 is adopting a base 3-4 defense. The "Steel Curtain" was a 4-3. Never forget that.

The Steelers won playoff games in 1984, 1989, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2002 including one losing effort in the Super Bowl with NFL QB household names like Bubby Brister, Mike Maddox, Kordell Stewart, and Neil Odonell. All first ballot HoFers right ?
You're correct it's not that they've developed a winning culture and are committed to continuing it. It's just that they got lucky with a QB in the oo's.

when you've been a bengal fan for 30 years, the surprise about the bengals isn't their ineptitude or the losses or massive failure to win a playoff game. the surprise as a bengal fan would be winning a super bowl. makes you numb after the first 25 years of fandom of this team. it doesn't make me puke anymore. i just expect it, can't stop being a fan, it's like being in an abusive relationship you just can't seem to get out of.

I really think it has to do with organizational culture...which is created by upper management and trickles down to the coaches and players.
The Bengals are comparable to the Lions. You just knew the Lions would lose to the Packers last week to lose the division...and then lose to the Seahawks this week...

They are very good with their draft choices and have coaches who develop and put their players in a position succeed. The Bengals are the opposite.
Bengals have a reputation for drafting so well these past few years. Its hard to see how well the players panned out till years later and for the most part these players haven't panned out well at all.

Just think how good the Bengals would be if the refs told the oline they could hold every play, the defense they could take all the cheap shots they wanted, and they would only flag them a couple of times a game. Cincy would win just about every game as well....

Yep. Essentially their upper management is better than ours.
We have a de facto GM that hasn't work a playoff game in 26+ years...and he's still in the same position.
