True, Mixon is definitely more talented than Zack Moss, especially in the passing game. But as far as who fits the Offense more Moss surely does and that is why I think he will have a better season this year than Mixon has had as of late at least as far as productivity. Moss shouldn't have nearly as many snaps as Mixon, as it should be RBBC with Moss and Chase Brown. But being more productive is where it is at and I think these RB's should be much more productive this season with better OL play. Sure will help not always being in the Shotgun with our OL on their heels. RE: Rank our RBs (2024) - Isaac Curtis: The Real #85 - 06-20-2024 PFF has us bottom 3. Relies on PFF synthetic grades which are virtually always questionable. Not a word about matching the player to the scheme which in football is critical - and Moss matches the scheme better than Mixon did. RE: Rank our RBs (2024) - Whatever - 06-26-2024 So, as another discussion point, PFF has our RB's ranked 30th. Their write up is as follows... The Bengals signed Zack Moss this offseason to replace Joe Mixon, who the team traded to the Texans. Moss has recorded steady rushing grades in the 70.0s in each of his four seasons with a healthy yards per carry average right around 4.0. Cincinnati also has Chase Brown, their fifth-round pick from 2023, to bring some added speed to the backfield. Brown had a tough rookie season, recording a 59.0 rushing grade. Hard to disagree until we see better. Moss and Chase Brown don't have a lot of carries in the NFL, heck Brown only had 44 last year. Trayveon Williams is a decent ST'er and Kick Returner but he isn't a gamebreaker. Chris Evans has done next to nothing in the pros and always seems to be in the coaches dog house. I would like to add Jerrick McKinnon who is a solid vet who can catch the ball out of the backfield and pass protect. I do really like what I saw from Chase Brown in Synric's thread along with Yoshi though. Brown improved a crazy amount in route running and pass catching in just a couple months and we all saw how he can break a screen to the house last year. RE: Rank our RBs (2024) - puddycat - 06-26-2024 Like many I voted 20-26. While Moss is not a fast as Mixon, I don't see him as any worse in short yardage. I also think that Moss will be as good as Mixon between the tackles with Trent Brown being an upgrade to Jonah. The Bengals never needed Mixon to be a home run back.. which is good because despite his athleticism he never was. Chase is like Gio, although not half the blocker that Gio was. Chase is not going to break out unless he can work in space, which requires Burrow to throw downfield. That would require Irwin/Burton/Jones/Iosivas to be a downfield threat. Maybe Burrow will acquire chemistry with somebody other than Chase. Still, I expect the offense to be good enough to allow the Bengals to run more in the 4th quarter, which will keep them out of the basement running-wise. Edit: BTW, next year's draft is filled with RBs of all types. Right now rankings are 3 1st rounders, 3 2nd, and 3 3rd. RE: Rank our RBs (2024) - bfine32 - 06-27-2024 Can we call the RB room Zack Brown Ran RE: Rank our RBs (2024) - rfaulk34 - 06-29-2024 (06-27-2024, 12:18 AM)bfine32 Wrote: Can we call the RB room Zack Brown Ran I'll have to take that to the nickname board. RE: Rank our RBs (2024) - Joelist - 06-29-2024 The problem with trying to rank our RB room is right now it does not have a lot of carries - there is not a lot of film on them even on Moss there is more but not tons. But we do know enough to draw some general points. For example, Moss is a much better scheme fit than Mixon was and a far better pass protector. Also, Brown has elite speed and he did show up for OTAs bigger - whether his technique has also upgraded needs to be seen. Especially if the OL isn't always playing in Shotgun. The good thing is Zack Moss was the best RB running out of the Shotgun last year in the entire NFL. Pretty sure, Mixon was one of the worst RB's running out of the Shotgun. RE: Rank our RBs (2024) - bfine32 - 07-15-2024 Kirwan and Milz ranked our RB room today; it was pitiful to listen to. But I could not disagree with any of it. Most "eye-opening" stat. Our entire RB corps has 14 NFL rushing TDs combined and they all came from 1 guy who has taken 4 years to get there RE: Rank our RBs (2024) - Whacked - 07-16-2024 Any updates from camp on these RB’s? It’s been pretty quiet. That’s probably not good as people go out of their way to highlight and embellish the tiniest of positives seen; even if it’s one run / play. “OMG! Moss broke a tackle and ran for a whopping 5 yards today! He is going to be the next Corey Dillon! SB baby!!” Lol RE: Rank our RBs (2024) - KillerGoose - 07-16-2024 (07-16-2024, 07:26 AM)Whacked Wrote: Any updates from camp on these RB’s? It’s been pretty quiet. Camp hasn't started quite yet. It begins this weekend, so we'll start hearing more then. Also, 3 & 1/2 weeks until the pre-season opener where we will see these guys get plenty of game time. I agree that I cannot disagree with Kirwan and Milz but RB's have to have a chance to shine before they can. Moss started to shine last year when Taylor went down and Chase Brown shown he is electric on screens. I am excited to see what these guys can do. Sure wouldn't mind bringing in another RB after cuts though. (07-16-2024, 09:31 AM)KillerGoose Wrote: Camp hasn't started quite yet. It begins this weekend, so we'll start hearing more then. Yes, once Training Camp begins we should start seeing some hype specifically with Chase Brown and his speed. Sure looks 10 times better as a pass catcher/route runner than he did 3 months ago from some vids I saw in the Brown/Yoshi thread. I think we're going to see more screens and wide gap zone type of carries which allows for more cut-back lanes/type of runs. I will say that a person can absorb and learn a lot when devoting 4 years to a craft or career. It should be interesting to say the least. |
