He may not be a good GM, but he is a good decent man who treats all his employees like family. He gives money to charities all over the city. But you're right, there will be slimy fans who cheer his demise. Same types who will curse their own mothers for not allowing them to eat ice cream and candy for dinner every night when they were kids.. True. They made the lopsided deal of the century with the City on that stadium deal led by commissioner Bob Bedinghaus, who not long afterwards after getting voted out, would go work for the Bengals for 18 years. I get that the FO made mistakes. The FA's were poor. The bumbled yet another long term deal for a star player. And coaching changes need to be made. But the idea that a wholesale tear it all up from the top down, entire org rebuild needs to take place for the Bengals to get back to the top of the AFCN & beat the big dogs is out of touch and just grown ass men being in their feelings. All of us are disappointed in the 2024 Bengals. All of us should expect changes. I, for one, would be excited to see a new O Line coach, nearly entire defensive staff, and (honestly) a new voice in the ST room as well. Throw in a lot of heavy handed evaluation of how the Bengals are drafting and I can buy it all... But, Mike Vrabel? Mike Brown's the problem? Certainly not on the field..... THE BENGALS PLAYERS bungled those games away. Not Mike Brown. Not ZT. Those 2 didn't fumble against KC or the Ravens. Those 2 didn't miss gimme extra points and FGs to win games. Those 2 didn't drop touch downs that would have won games. Duke Tobin didn't commit a senseless DPI to give a game to KC. THE PLAYERS DID ALL OF THAT. How many scouts do we have to find those players? Who hires the scouts? Who hires the coaches? It starts with the FO. The FO just lost millions that could have went to other players and help the team by botching yet another star player extension. It all starts with the inept FO. You and I could make money running an NFL Franchise. His team, while worth a ton, is still at the bottom as far as team value. He’s not all that good. We’re never going to have a better chance than we do right now with Burrow in his prime. People talk about Rodgers and Brees only winning one SB a piece, and what a failure that was. Burrow becoming Marino 2.0 would be the biggest slight on this franchise in its entire history. And that’s really saying something. BINGO We'll see how this offseason goes? We'll know if ownership is willing to go all in with Joe in his prime. Or if they're going to nickel and dime and piss away their best chance. The Joe Burrow window isn't going to be open forever. Will they do the right thing? Or are we going to be on here 10 years from now adding Joe to the long list of Bengals coulda/shoulda/woulda's? How many scouts do we have to find those players? Who hires the scouts? Who hires the coaches? It starts with the FO. The same people who had the players ahead or on the cusp of winning those games. Look, the front office has made mistakes for sure, but those games were totally blown by the players. Different players, let's not forget, in most of these losses. The Bengals aren't the Pats, Raiders, Jets, Browns, etc. The Bengals were in control to win those games and player skill errors caused most of these losses. Not game management. Not contract situations. The on field bundling of what are routine plays. If the Players completed HALF of those routine gimme plays the Bengals are the #1 seed. That's on the guy's wearing the jersey. Not the guy's in suits or holding clipboards. I had liked John Ross, Jackson Carman, Dax Hill (specifically at safety), and even Zach Carter. John Ross I thought though needed to be used much more on short routes, as his college tape showed his best skill set was getting YAC. Carman I thought was a good fit to be the starting LG in 2022 after seeing him play solid in limited snaps in the previous (post)season, but Pollack/Taylor decided to give the job to rookie Volson instead. I have to wonder if losing out on that starting LG spot in 2022 resulted in some lack of effort for him after. Hill I think had the makings of being a really good FS. He had the range and talent to succeed at the spot, he just was more familiar playing CB and SS from college. With how poor Stone ended up performing most of the year at FS as well, I have to wonder if it would have been better just keeping Hill at that spot to continue learning on the job. And for Carter, his best spot may have ended up being 3-4 DE based on his size and length, but I thought he was a good pass rusher coming out of college. He was kind of a tweener and was moved around different spots during games in college to take advantage of matchups. Bengals never seemed to really move guys around to different spots, and I think Carter just was never able to handle full-time DT against those bigger, more powerful guys inside. Anarumo's pass rush schemes are pretty bland for the DL, relying heavily on each individual being able to beat his man ahead of him. When looking at all these guys though, they all needed some amount of coaching to refine their skill sets (and/or have the scheme tweaked to take advantage of their talents better), which didn't seem to happen. I'm sure some of it is on the player, but some of it might be on the coaching too. The gaslighting and make-believe of 8 percent playoff chances has evaporated. No more shitty teams to beat up on. Love your post but Joe is one of the best QB’s and Chase one of the best receivers. Had they signed Chase earlier before the season it’d been a lot less. Duke may be making the personnel decisions with input from Zac and the staff but not the money. The Bengals off season will be telling. Gosh so many crucial decisions monetarily and roster related. |
