Let’s assume Hendrickson is back and let’s say the Bengals go edge at 17. Maybe Golden gets some production out of Murphy and who ever we take at 17 is ready to play and playing like a 1st rd. Pick. In this scenario Hubbard should be a rotational DE#4 type because the young guys earned reps. I don’t want to get into a situation where we’re trying to force feed Hubbard getting snaps to keep him happy. We were reluctant to bench Bell and Hilton was getting upset for getting taken off the field on passing downs. It’s not what have you done for the franchise it’s what can you give to the team currently. Just feel like his role can be filled by a young guy or it’s better for both sides to have a fresh start. He’s never been a sack guy which is fine because he still got pressures. He’s basically giving nothing as a rusher currently and the excuse the last two years has been injuries. He’s turing 30 just think age might be playing a factor as well. RE: Bengals release Sheldon Rankins - TecmoBengals - 02-22-2025 I support the move and hope they release a couple more underperforming players to allocate the dollars elsewhere. Exactly, I would also love to see some sense of urgency. Begin with the end in mind and promote action. RE: Bengals release Sheldon Rankins - TecmoBengals - 02-22-2025 (Yesterday, 11:42 AM)M.W. I assume though they'll drag out the decision making process with Tee/Chase and potentially releasing players. RE: Bengals release Sheldon Rankins - bengalfan74 - 02-22-2025 SO it's started, like 3 more to go I hope. After having some time to dwell upon the subject, I'm not so sure that Sam Hubbard would be on the Bengals chopping block. Aside from being a decent DE until accumulated injuries have caught up with him, Sam is also a fiery leader of the team and a model citizen. I feel like the team will by sympathetic to his situation and offer him to restructure and stay on to see if he can bounce back. Besides that, the team wasted, err I mean invested a 1st round pick in Myles Murphy to be the heir apparent to Hubbard. I predict that with Murphy heading into his 3rd season, the management will want to see him in the starting role to begin the season, as they will have to make a decision upon his 5th year option at the conclusion of next season. They will likely view keeping Hubbard around as insurance in case Murphy can't cut the mustard. And let's face it, they're not going to find better than Hubbard for his salary or less, and they likely don't want to bring in a guy that would likely beat out Murphy as the starter from the jump. Dude will work his ass off to try and get back to what he once was. (9 hours ago)SunsetBengal Wrote: Maybe, but we can always hope. Well said, I also feel like the team will be sympathetic to Sam and give him another shot, all be it for cheaper. He costs too much for a backup right now. Oh I agree I'd say unless he just can't get back in the saddle at all they'll keep him. Probably just cut his salary down. Cappa I'd say is next most likely to be cut then Stone and Moss. My main focus I want to see for next season is retooled O and D lines. To me that's been our biggest downfall. Sadly, I feel like they'll wait for Golden's analysis of his film from last year, prior to making any decision on his future. Remember, the FO is concerned with locking up the "big stars" before looking at upgrading complimentary positions. We don't really know what these new coaches or coordinator want. We don't really know what these new coaches or coordinator want. True, plus we shouldn't cut anybody unless we have a replacement in house. Sheldon Rankins was worse than Kris Jenkins and especially BJ Hill last season so he was an easy cut. With Cappa I guess we have Ford but he is a backup at best, same with Volson. With Stone we have Daijahn Anthony and maybe Tycen Anderson who could play FS, but that is about it. Jordan Battle is a SS. Now with Moss, we need to bring back Khalil Herbert and then we could cut ties. RE: Bengals release Sheldon Rankins - Bengalbug - 02-22-2025 Cappa might stick around, but he is grossly overpaid. If you can bring him back for 4,000,000 or so? Maybe. He is currently the 12th highest paid RG in the NFL at AAV of 8,750,000 The 17th highest paid is 4,000,000 in AAV, 16th is 4,500,000. I know the metrics were horrid last year, but unless you have a clear upgrade, I’d rather the continuity to start and maybe he is beat out in camp, and cut later. New OL coach might be able to get him back to average, hence the dock in pay. Maybe. Good opinions, but that is sort of out of the blue in a thread about Defensive Tackles... Sheldon Rankins was worse than Kris Jenkins and especially Cappa was a bottom 5 player last season as a guard; we can get that production from Jackson Kirkland at an eighth of the price. |
