Yeah... Except that during Burrow's rookie contract all of the money was on the defensive side of the ball. One middle of the pack finish is all there was to show for it. I honestly can't believe Lou was ever considered HC material around the league. Honestly I'm surprised he got another DC job.

That was why when Lou finally bowed to reality and simplified the defense the play improved, and it also was his death knell. Golden's whole rep is around coaching players up and making the calls and alignments of his defense digestible by players so they concentrate on play on the field and not trying to understand the scheme.

This is true and not true.

The Bengals started 2024 in a very simple heavy 5 man defensive line front playing cover 1 man on the back end. After the Panthers game when Cam Taylor Britt, Geno Stone, and the DL were struggling Lou added in alot more Run/Pass blitzing because without a nose tackle and a beat up DL teams were running it down their throat.

By the end of the year the scheme "simplified" because the Offenses they faced simplified. Raiders, Cowboys, Browns, Bronco, Titans, even the Steelers (even though they got lit up by check downs in thr first game).

Lou Anarumo was the best scheme coach on staff if that was his only job he would be alot better DC and maybe in will be Indy. Here he was a major voice in stacking the draft board and it's felt like he tooks some players without a real plan (Dax Hill, Myles Murphy). I think it also hurt him he never had a second string to his DL.

Today is the media lunch…the one day per year Mike Brown talks to reporters. I would assume the contract situations for Hendrickson and Stewart will be questions 1a and 1b

Mike Brown:  doesn't get why Shemar is holding out over the clause common in many NFL contracts.
expects the lease to be signed before the end of the month
expects a Trey deal as well
would love to have a practice facility like the UC Bearcats

Duke: Shemar is getting bad advice.  I don't think I've ever seen them publically call out an agent.  I  agree with that assessment...said the same thing in his thread

Zac: both BJ Hill and Dax Hill will be cleared to practice on day 1. They will be load managed especially at the beginning of camp
has spoken to Trey in recent days
Dan Pitcher: Fairchild will work ONLY as LG; Ford and Patrick primarily on the right side
expects a lot of focus on getting Chase Brown involved

Al Golden: can't wait to get the contract disputes over with and guys in camp
best day of the off season was Joe Burrow coming into the defensive room and holding a 4 hour master class on what a QB looks for and sees
loves his secondary talent
watching to see who steps up and takes over as defensive leaders with all of last years captains gone

Mike Brown said all the right things, as far as I can see. (Ok, maybe not complaining about taxes. LOL). But if he wanted to make more money, he probably could move the Bengals to a larger market. I think he genuinely considers it part of his legacy to remain loyal to Cincinnati. His comments on Trey were hopeful. And his (and Tobin's) comments on Shemar frank.
