I think McKinnley was drafted for the NT or stop the run guy. I think their plan to have no true vet run stopper after Reader left blew up in their face. Rankins if healthy may have been a lot better than the rookies. I think McKinnley will backup Slater and Jenkins will back up Hill. Based on these stats, once Ossai went from part time to full time his numbers increased a ton as he had 4 of his 5 the last 6 games.Sadly, the injuries took its toll on Sam's body. I personally think that DT should be someone who can rush the passer, as they don't really have more than Hill who can rush the passer even decently well right now. Maybe it's just Rapien's and Goodberry's opinions, but they are mentioning Walter Nolen's name A LOT. They are also mentioning Kelvin Banks. Guys they are most mentioning after these two are Emmanwori and Starks, but they seem to think much less likely. They even mentioned possibly Derrick Harmon if Nolen and Banks not there. Sounds like they don't believe Bengals are leaning DE, at least at 17. Maybe if they trade back though. I thought Newton played better than expected considering he was a 5th round pick and tossed into the fray as a 5th round rookie corner in Lou's anti-rookie regime. I have higher hopes for the kid then most I suppose. RE: Notes from Voluntary Practice - Whatever - 04-23-2025 (04-23-2025, 09:27 AM)ochocincos Wrote: You mean Slaton, but yes I think this too. They are just giving their opinion. The Bengals haven't met with Banks or Harmon. Rapien was trying to push Tyler Booker as one of the most likely picks, and the club hasn't met with him, either. A person of his age and workout routine doesn't have to worry about appetite. He can eat anytime he wants as long as it supports his program. To lean out (body fat) and increase weight like he is takes a ton of protein. If he's hungry he needs to keep feeding the body. RE: Notes from Voluntary Practice - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 04-23-2025 (04-22-2025, 05:35 PM)Luvnit2 Wrote: I am curious do you think Jenkins can be a 4 to 8 sack DT in 2025? I definitely think Kris Jenkins could be a 4 to 8 sack DT, it is honestly not much to ask to get 4 sacks if you are a decent pass rusher. Jenkins has longer arms for a DT so he has the ability to disengage from blockers easier than shorter armed DT's. Kris Jenkins always works hard in the Offseason and I think he must be disappointed with how his rookie season went, especially towards the end of the season where he didn't get much better at rushing the passer while McKinnley did. The problem is they have shown next to nothing in rushing the passer besides BJ Hill. It is true the QB's in the NFL are far more athletic now, but this just means your Ends and Linebackers need to play with discipline and not let the QB escape towards the edges if the DT's flush them out. You are correct about protein, but incorrect about appetite, especially if he is trying to get lean. But not here to argue minutia, as I was pointing out what some use nicotine products for, not saying that was why Myles was dipping. We all want Murphy coming in at the weight and body fat percentage that will make him the most effective on the football field, whatever weight and percentage that may be. In my opinion, it would be nice to see Him drop down to 262, basically dropping to 10% BF, as his closing speed is lacking. But that is my weekend analyst take as an outsider, not the coaching staff and trainers who see Myles Murphy much more often. That's kind of scary because there are also a lot of guys with great physical trails like Ced Ogbuehi without the great college production that have washed out. I'd rather look at production. Yeah, that kind of statement makes me wonder/worry that if Kyle Hamilton was available when he drafted Dax Hill, would he have still drafted Dax Hill over Hamilton? Hamilton ran a 4.59 afterall compared to Dax's 4.38, and smoked him in the 10-yard split, 3-cone, and 20yd shuttle. At a certain point, a guy just shows he can play football and play his position really well. You just need to accept the film and the production. There's the saying "Potential will get you fired" and all of that... except I guess he won't ever get fired because he's essentially family. Yeah it's a tough balance, the speed vs. weight ratio. Murphy does seem like he is always "almost there" or his angle is bad so speed may get him over the top. But then losing some weight may hamper him in the straight up beat your guy game. Those Myles Garrett types are damn rare. Interestingly, many of our offensive lineman have poor raw athletic scores. So who knows? RE: Notes from Voluntary Practice - NotBigzo - 04-23-2025 Has anyone heard anything on Jermaine Burton? He is one roster spot, so they could also see how he does in camp. If he does very well, maybe trade him versus cutting him. |
