What is Herbert's stats in the playoffs with a 27 point lead at half? Chasing stats is a sure-fire giveaway regarding lack of understanding. Herbert has a much stronger arm than Burrow but as a QB he is levels below. Maybe actually watch some games when both are healthy? When you rush a pass play at the line of scrimmage as time is expiring in the 1st qtr that almost gets picked when Washington appears to not be able to stop anything down field I think they can take some blame. Looked like they were trying to beat a booth review on that play. It was close. I truly do not see a path for the defense to improve enough for us to have a successful season. I don't see it either. Maybe certain players start to play better or mixing up personnel packages helps. But I think Reader and Bates freed up guys around them and they just don't have anybody doing that now. Way too much attention is needed trying to stop the run. But they ran another right after that when the clock was expiring for the 1st qtr and I think they didn't need to run a play. Trying to catch them off guard perhaps but 1: not sure we needed to catch them off guard and 2: catch them off guard running the one play apparently they're defense excels at stopping. Herbert lost his only playoff game despite his defense producing 5 turnovers. RE: No real surprises - Wyche'sWarrior - 09-24-2024 (09-24-2024, 03:40 PM)NUGDUKWE Wrote: Yes the 1st one. Oh, I gotcha now. Yeah, agreed, I didn't like that either. Chargers scored 30 in a playoff game and lost. How many games did the Bengals score 30 on their super bowl run? What you saw last night is what will happen when an organization buys into the same crap the media nad fans shovel. THat its Joey BRRRRRRR who changed the culture. When the reality was the defense was AWESOME on that run and now that the defense is garbage the team will float around .500 no matter how good the QB is. Those teams are doing just fine (better than us). I'll even give you San Fran. But they can win with any QB. They don't need a star. Cowboys problem isn't at QB. The wins and numbers are there for Prescott. A Prescott / Burrow switch wouldn't move the needle at all. The Jets and Rams are fighting father time with their QBs. Getting a refresh without losing any productivity would be a boon for them. Goff, Darnold and Love and straight up inferior players. If the teams aren't willing to swap them for Burrow, that's their loss. Prescott is a notorious choke artist. It would move the needle in simply winning in the playoffs. Hurts is tough. I personally think Burrow is a superior player, but if you value Hurts' running ability maybe they'd pass on a 1 for 1 swap, but at worst it would be a break even. RE: No real surprises - Nicomo Cosca - 09-24-2024 Hurts has more INT’s than TD’s this season, and a passer rating in the mid 80’s. What are we even doing here. Which is exceptional no doubt, but dated 2 years later when it comes to the influx of star QB's argument. If the answer is forever or 4 years, or whatever, than then same can be said about the Coaching staff and it isn't. No, it doesn't. You're over-simplifying and equating things which don't compare. Joe Burrow had about 6 healthy quarters of football last season. He's played very well in 2 of the 3 games this year. That's his only football since 5-2. The coaching staff have had 20 games, plus preseason, since the last playoff game. Apples and oranges. And who is the 'influx of star QBs' that are now apparently better than Burrow after 3 games? I'm not sure I buy that argument exists. RE: No real surprises - casear2727 - 09-24-2024 (09-24-2024, 04:50 PM)BigBad Wrote: Completely missing the point my man. The defense played well in the playoffs, they were not great all season. That is a myth. Also, the uninformed fan doesnt realize that Lou's defense is 1000 times better playing with a lead. It is silly to think that Burrow did not change the team, he absolutely did. I know this firsthand. Herbert is not on Burrow's level as an all around QB, thats just a bad take. The defense is apparently garbage and last night showed that we can score on every possession, except one, and still lose, this a terrible situation that may not be fixable. Or dump off pass on 3rd down and goal.. we can debate decisions but in the end with this defense we have to raise our game in red zone RE: No real surprises - Joelist - 09-24-2024 Are we still doing this nuttery that a Rookie is suddenly better than Burrow because he faced the worst defense in the NFL in years? Burrow was not the problem, the offense was not the problem. The problem is our patchwork DL which gets zero pressure and has poor gap discipline coupled with atrocious tackling. On the upside Jenkins looked good and Cedric Johnson in very limited duty flashed a little. McKinney Jackson should be back in 2-3 weeks along with Murphy. Which leads to the unfortunate potential scenario that the defense gets good again after it doesn't really matter. RE: No real surprises - jj22 - 09-24-2024 The league is flush with Franchise QB’s. Welcome to 2024. The days of Brady, Manning, Brees, and Big Ben are past. Folks going to have to accept the fact there is Mahomes and then there is a second tier that is filling up fast. You don't go 21 out of 23 just because of a struggling defense, he came in NFL very accomplished and he show it last nite RE: No real surprises - Nate (formerly eliminate08) - 09-25-2024 (09-24-2024, 02:36 PM)Bengalbug Wrote: Hey, they did have to settle for one field goal.
