RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - bengalfan74 - 04-05-2025 4-0 Reds wow RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - samhain - 04-05-2025 I liked India a lot but Singer is making that deal look like a steal for the Reds so far. RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - cinci4life - 04-05-2025 CES 451ft bomb!!! RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - Goalpost - 04-05-2025 Let's give away some outs and runs. Friedl can't count 3 outs. Fraley lets a single go past him for 3 runs. RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - cinci4life - 04-05-2025 Finally a win!!!!! RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - Forever Spinning Vinyl - 04-06-2025 Alex Trevino has two games with two hits. Luke Maile had three total games last year with two hits, two of which were his last two games as a Red raising his season average from .157 to .178. Great day for Friedl . . . except for one boneheaded play . . . I don't entirely blame him for forgetting the number of outs in a long inning with a pitching change . . . kind of 'side-eyeing' the 1st base coach, though. A possible blessing in disguise for the team of young players that a teaching moment like this happened in a win. Singer is legit. He's going to be facing a lot of #4 and #5 starters for a bit. 25 runs for support on 2 starts. Plus, as I was taught as a pitcher, a quick pace on the mound while throwing strikes keeps your defenders on their toes and they usually seem to be more alert at the plate. RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - TheLeonardLeap - 04-06-2025 Holy crap, not just a Steer hit, but a HR. RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - Goalpost - 04-06-2025 Reds' number 1 pick, number 2 overall, Chase Burns, made his debut for high A Dayton. 4 innings, 1 hit, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts, 0 runs. RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - kevin - 04-06-2025 Terry Francona finding out he has his work cut out for him. Milwaukee has been a good team and Cincinnati has been a bad team, and it showed this weekend. Other than De La Cruz, I looked at Reds roster this winter and wondered where the hitting was going to come from, not much on hitters to start season. The hope is Pitching and Defense can win some games. The key word on hiring Francona was DEVELOP young players. Meaning when they dumped Bell, they admitted Reds were not going in the right direction. It is only April 6th. Francona just getting started. Maybe some can be developed. Others Francona might have to suggest just trade them, they don't have it, never will. I gotta say, it's hard to get excited for baseball prospects. Most take at least a few years to get into the bigs, and by that time, most people have forgotten about them. And that's assuming they even paid attention to the MLB draft at all. Reds are dropping $37 mill of their $116 mill payroll into Martinez and Candelario. They are the only players getting >$10 mill. And for that they have a guy hitting .171 and a pitcher with a 5.91 ERA. Somebody has to start stepping up for this team we're digging a hole already! RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - bengalfan74 - 04-07-2025 Good news: we're no longer playing the Brewers who we just can't beat. Bad news: we're now at the 8-1 Giants who are playing much better ball than us. Five of their regular starters are batting .273 or above and they're 4th in team ERA at 2.85. I'm just hoping we don't get swept. We can't afford to dig much more of a hole already. RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - TheLeonardLeap - 04-07-2025 9:45pm starts suck. I'll give Martinez a bit of leeway since the previous 3 years, he had a sub-4.0 ERA, but these early outings can end up making a difference in seeding or even making the playoffs potentially, so I hope he gets back on track before end of April. Candelario on the other hand has never really been a "good" hitter. .239 career BA, .731 career OPS. .225 BA and .707 OPS last year. I'm not expecting him to magically turn it around much. His contract feels like an overpayment for what he brings. Optimistic - Reds end up 5-8 after this Giants series, going into a 3-game series against the lowly Pirates where they could potentially get to .500. Realistic - 4-9 after this Giants series Pessimistic - 3-10 RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - bengalfan74 - 04-07-2025 (04-07-2025, 12:50 PM)ochocincos Wrote: I'll give Martinez a bit of leeway since the previous 3 years, he had a sub-4.0 ERA, but these early outings can end up making a difference in seeding or even making the playoffs potentially, so I hope he gets back on track before end of April. Indeed it does. I mean he's just "a guy" that's ok to have around as a spot starter or whatever. But in the big scheme of things he doesn't move the needle that much. But in the big scheme of things he doesn't move the needle that much. It was a strange signing. This team has been starving for a consistent outfield power bat since Castellanos left. They've gone heavy on infield talent in drafts and in trades. A team with such reluctance to spend opting for him rather than OF help seems unwise and rudderless. Martinez confuses me as well. He's a fine player and might be my favorite singing of theirs in recent years. Even so, is he worth 20 plus mil with needs elsewhere? Between those 2, that's more than enough to get a power bat in the OF. RE: Reds March/April 2025 thread - ochocincos - 04-07-2025 (04-07-2025, 05:42 PM)samhain Wrote: It was a strange signing. Yep with the way it's looking right now, Reds rotation may be fine with Greene, Lodolo, Singer, Abbott, and Spiers. Martinez's salary seems expensive for a mid-late rotation SP. Maybe they have just way too much confidence in Hays, Steer, Friedl, Fraley, and Lux? Then they ate his contract and the second they finished paying it off they signed essentially the exact same type of player to almost the exact same type of contract in Candelario. |
