So you are saying it is more about optics than reality. Tate can suck much worse than Core, but by obsessing on just on play out of an entire season you rate Tate higher. Rfaulk is trying to say Tate starting the 3rd preseason game means the staff was down on Core and Tate had risen above him on the depth chart. Hopkins starting over Price after Price started the 3rd preseason game shows there's no correlation. I have it, and it definitely has an impact on my sled pulls/push, deads and squats. Tate's already on my roster (my first 6 are Green, Boyd, Ross, Willis, Erickson and Tate), it's just working out who will be 7th - it would have been Stanley Morgan but his injury situation is murky. Sorry, i was saying 5-10 punts and kickoffs a game, per team. You'll have punt and kickoff returns, extra points and field goal attempts as well, but i was focusing on the defensive side of the kicking game. ZT has to decide if he wants to stick with the incumbent or go out on a limb with Morgan and/or now (i believe) Bryant. And to be honest, they probably both should be on the PS but all three have shown a talent that says they should be on the team in some form or another. It's just a matter of if you think they can keep them whomever on this practice squad. I'm saying I think its a coin toss between the two, but to me special teams value doesn't come into play when I think which one should get cut or not. I could not push off on my toe without crying like a school girl. Plus I knew the injury was there and it distracted me during work-outs. The stabbing sensation was breath-taking. RE: Surprised Cuts - psychdoctor - 08-30-2019 Just to add Tate vs Core debate... Would you be "Surprised" if both were cut in favor of let's say Morgan & Bryant? I would. But I also liked Bryant a hell of a lot. He has bear claws for hands and fights for the ball. I like him probably better but I would like to see more of him. RE: Surprised Cuts - rfaulk34 - 08-30-2019 (08-30-2019, 02:22 PM)Whatever Wrote: Core sucks at contested catches, while Tate excels at them. This creates the illusion that Tate is more reliable. However, Core can get seperation and Tate can't, so people tend to forget the routine grabs Core makes and focus on Tate's highlight reel catches. Yeah, let's talk about illusion. The illusion of separation being that important and how Core and Malone can do it and Tate can't. I just rewatched the first 2 PS games because i wanted to see how much Tate, Core and Malone were targeted, how many catches they had and what the coverage was like. I used 3 criteria; contested (where the defender is right on/touching the receiver), less arm length (where the defender is away from the receiver but within one arm length) and more arm length (where the defender is more than an arm length away). Here's how it breaks down. Core- 5 targets, 4 rec: contested 2 (1 incomplete), less arm length 1, more arm length 2 Malone- 7 targets, 3 rec: contested 2 (1 incomplete), less arm length 1, more arm length 1 (1 wide open underthrow, 1 contested underthrow, 1 drop on pass behind him) Tate- 8 targets, 7 rec: contested 4 (1 incomplete), less arm length 1, more arm length 3 So, tell me some more about how Malone and Core are out there running out of their shoes and separating from defenders while Tate has to wrestle away catches like a wolf wrestling away a chunk of water buffalo from a bear. The guys that started, did because they earned it. So i'll take those words you put in my mouth " Rfaulk is trying to say Tate starting the 3rd preseason game means the staff was down on Core and Tate had risen above him on the depth chart." and toss them aside and just leave you with what the head coach said. “I wouldn’t say that we’re trying to make a statement in any way, shape or form. The guys that have earned those opportunities will get them. We haven’t factored experience into our decision making – that’s not the way we are approaching it. We’re approaching it as they’ve earned that time in practice and in preseason games. We feel like they have our trust, so let’s get them out there and let them go compete.” RE: Surprised Cuts - THE PISTONS - 08-30-2019 One thing people don't get is teams keep guys based on special teams alone in some cases. Historically, that has been the case. However, with rule changes to make the game, particularly the STs part of the game less violent, those roles are diminishing in importance. I think I'd just start punting balls out of bounds before I kept a guy solely because he's a good gunner and nothing else. Seems like we see less than a handful of actual returns in a game these days anyways. RE: Surprised Cuts - Luvnit2 - 08-31-2019 I Know many fans thin we have the best wide receiving group and tough cuts. But, here some guys that may be available tomorrow M. Floyd Treadwell Doctson (many wanted him and he was drafted by Skins prior tour pick) Pryor Stills (rumor) Lots of athletic receivers will be available for teams to grab, vets versus unproven rookies who looked great against the 4th string RE: Surprised Cuts - NKURyan - 08-31-2019 (08-31-2019, 12:39 AM)Luvnit2 Wrote: I Know many fans thin we have the best wide receiving group and tough cuts. Obviously ended up working out pretty well for us... WJIII and Tyler Boyd for the win! Don't think I'd take either now. Never been all that impressed with Floyd or Pryor either. In my case, and I'm assuming for most, it started small and worsened over time. One would generally assume that a professional athlete with the access he has to health care would not wait until his condition was severe before getting treatment, particularly since it seemed to surface during the offseason. Given the way the team has dealt with injuries, it can also be assumed that he wouldn't have been practicing if he was seriously hampered or had a high probability of tearing the tendon completely. Now, he could have been in excruciating pain and it hampered him a lot. They could have allowed it to heal fully and it didn't bother him. It may have been like my case and didn't bother him during physical exertion. You can talk about blathering, but neither of us really knows the situation. You're the one assuming he's still injured. Being frank, all these guys have minor injuries and physical problems.
