RE: BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded - Au165 - 03-17-2025 The leverage the Bengals actually have here is massive as the franchise tag this year is $22.5 million, he is making $17 Million. Next year the tag probably goes to high 20's but still I doubt it breaks $30 million. They own Trey's rights and he isn't retiring as he obviously wants to cash in based on this whole thing. The Bengals do not have to do anything, they can essentially make him play at a steep discount this year and tag him the next two years which are probably the only years he has value then he is an FA and past much demand. As others have said, you don't give him away unless the return is comparable to the leverage we have here. I personally like a 3 year extension averaging about $29 million a year with an ability to get out of the last year. RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - Destro - 03-17-2025 Been a hugely beaten horse, but need to have some really good players in this draft. They need to be deep into evaluations and scouting. RE: They're Done!!! I think these numbers will become more and more reasonable with time, just as Burrow's contract did. Yep. Next couple of years as the cap goes up and the market goes up, these contracts will be very reasonable. Also, that's only 2M more guaranteed than JJ got. RE: They're Done!!! It was a combo of talent and injuries to key defensive players. The next time SAS gets a stat right might be his first. Cinci. was 5th in the league last year at 63.93% in Red Zone Scoring Percentage (TD only) if this is what he's talking about. Problem with SAS is because he's such a loudmouth and making 20mm per year, he doesn't believe anybody would ever take the time to look up this stat or any stats he shouts out. SAS also said when OSU QB Dwayne Haskens was drafted by Washington that they were using him entirely wrong. He said DH was an athletic QB and needed him to run. Anybody that followed OSU and saw him play knew his running ability was next to nothing and that he was 100% a drop-back QB. SAS got called out on that and apologized. RE: BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded - Luvnit2 - 03-17-2025 I agree. This is about an extension and not a new contract. Trey is due to make 15.8 million in 2025. If Bengals give him 28 million in 2026 and then 30 million in 2027, he can potentially make 58 more million. As I have said, they guarantee is huge for him. Bengals guarantee his almost 16 million in 2025 and then 100% guarantee his 28 million in 2026. Then no guaranteed or little guaranteed money in 2027. I think Trey should jump on any offer close to this. As you said, Bengals could tag him in 2026 (assuming he comes out of 2025 healthy, if not they could cut him right now) and he would make less money and less guaranteed. RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - Ell Prez - 03-17-2025 I think important to note, for all those who didn’t really think we should resign Tee. If we had other players (draft picks) that hit, we probably wouldn’t sign Tee. If CTB, Hill, Carter, Carmen Jackson, Murphy, etc were all playing extremely well, we would probably prioritize a balanced roster. But the truth is we don’t have anyone to sign. Most of picks have been misses/busts/underwhelming. We decided to retain a highly talented 25 year old. One who helps the team win games. Based on all the realistic options, we needed to sign him. I see him getting closer to 25 million per year APY, but with 60% of the 75 million guarateed or a cash guarantee of 45 million. ? Did you not know the numbers are already out? 4yr/$115m ($28.75m/yr) with up to an extra $30m in incentives available (so potentially up to $36.25m/yr). RE: They're Done!!! TY, yes I lookedit up amd maybe I did not hear correctly. Bengals were 5th best, maybe he said that or was wrong. As for defense, our defense was polar opposite. Bengals were 3rd worst defense in the NFL giving up TD's in the redzone. They improvein that area, we win a lot more games. https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-red-zone-scoring-pct RE: They're Done!!! Our long wait is over - TheLeonardLeap - 03-17-2025 I really hope this works out as a Bengals fan because I want to see success, but I can't fully ignore the fact that we had a great offense and shitty defense and it feels like we just decided to spend a whole lot more on the same offense instead of spending money to fix the defense...and just trying to run it back and yet again hope for better results than we've been getting. An awful lot of money to Tee for a guy who last had 1k yards three years ago. Then between Kirkland,Ford,Volson, and the mediocre free agent and the rookie they pick 2. If i had to put money down right now, i'd say the plan would be Kirkland and Ford at G with Volson on the bench and they draft another one plus maybe pick up a post TC cut. RE: They're Done!!! I would take that bet. There are very inexpensive guards who haven proven to be much better like Risner. If healthy, he will be a very inexpensive option. In 2024, he made 2.4 million. This is also the argument for not to sign Tee long term. Now we have to hit on these picks and the FO did nothing (update scout(ing) department) to signal a change in philosophy or renewed focus on scouting that it would require to suddenly start hitting on picks (that aren't top 5) again. Hitting on picks is what got Eagles the Championship. KC did it the Patriots way by not holding on to the SB winning players and letting talent go every year. We are banking on the Eagles route and we'll just have to wait and see if suddenly something changes with the draft. RE: They're Done!!! It's a pretty horrible plan if they do that. No matter that Ford looked a bit better by default, he's your 3rd tackle/6th man. Volson is good enough to have a job but can get pushed off by a late rd pick. Kirkland may have shown flashes but coming off an injury it's nuts to pencil him in even. They absolutely have to sign at least one vet even if they're replacement level (if football had a WAR stat). With all the defensive help needed and opportunities for Golden to mold his group, they take BPA but lean defense no way do you plan for a mid round rookie to start. These are the points conceded in those games 38 24 41 (OT) 37 Or Zach Carter who played in 50% of snaps and this is the points we conceded in those games 26 38 24 We had a horrifically bad D when we were running guys out like Guy and Carter for more snaps. When we ran Murphy, Ossai and Jackson out for more snaps we weren’t necessarily great but it wasn’t a disaster. Those are totals this O can beat most weeks. I wanted them to do more on D but the young guys (other than Carter) showed enough to suggest they belong on a NFL roster. They showed you can win with them if they have the bigger pieces like Trey around them. What they now need to do is find a Jessie Bates in the second round or a Geno Atkins in the fourth to elevate the D. Do that along with a Logan Wilson or Germaine Pratt type in the third or a Carlos Dunlap in the second and this team can go all the way. Maybe they even find that D playmaker in the first. This will be the first top 20 pick on D since Dre Kirkpatrick in 2012. A top 20 pick gives you a much better shot at that difference maker in a way picking 30 or 31 won’t. RE: They're Done!!! Any news on how the cap shakes out, after the extensions are applied? I can look at the potential for the "same guys" being an improvement over last year with Dax moving to slot corner, DJ coming back, Ossai taking over for Sam and drafting a top safety and hitting on a G and ED in the draft. Lanes are still open for improvement on the D with just a little work and smarts. |
