Spot on. The quickest path to the QB is a straight line up the middle. Same with the RB. If the D-Line is backed up by LBs filling the gaps and safeties cleaning up the spills, the scheme works.
I like Fangio's defense, because it attacks downhill. I am really hoping we pursue this guy.

The Raiders just fired Antonio Pierce . That likely means Marvin Lewis is looking for a new job. If I recall, he used to be a pretty good defensive coordinator

I thought of Pierce also. I learned he was never a coordinator or head coach other than high school.
As for ML, I jokingly threw his name out. I am not sure ML has the energy needed to be a great DC.

I didn’t put anywhere near the thought you are putting into it in terms of a timeline. You seem to be putting words in my mouth that I didn’t say.
The defense sucks.
They need to bring in a great DC to change that.
I’m open to a complete overhaul as a most extreme scenario; realistically this is something that happens over the course of a few years.
I’m open to someone that can develop what’s here into a winning unit as well, but it’s likely the team needs to bring in at least a good corner, safety, and a couple front 7 players.
They need to bring someone in that can evaluate what’s here and keep the good players and build from there.
If he has a different scheme or the same scheme it doesn’t matter to me.
Results are what matters.
We need someone with a clear vision and the ability to bring in talented players to achieve that vision—and the ability to coach up the players to get the most out of them. He’s gotta be great at game planning and play calling as well.
Nothing I said is worth getting bent out of shape over.
As far as the offseason goes I would personally look at the safety and corner from Minnesota that are hitting the market—or other proven secondary players. I’d like some help in the front 7 and at guard in the draft. I wouldn’t mind another high pick at corner or safety.
I think when it comes down to it everyone wants the same thing—for them to get these coaching hires right.

One has to consider the timeline when proposing the hiring of a Defensive Coordinator that runs a different scheme than the current personnel were chosen to run. Would Robert Saleh be as successful running a 4-3 defense? I don't know, never seen him put a 4-3 defense on the field, however his 3-4 defenses have been quite effective.

O line wish list- Anyone capable of taking pride in protecting our franchise qb. Its criminal at the amount of ineptitude this line has been since Joe was drafted. Football is and always will be won in the trenches

If there is a good time to blow up our defensive scheme, now would be the time. For those who say we have too many 4-3 type players, I say these players suck in a 4-3 so either a change of scenery for them or how much worse can they be in a base 3-4 defense.
Our defensive backs scheme wise would not change a lot, we still use 2 CB's. slot CB and 2 safeties. The inside LB'ers Willson and Pratt would be good inside backers as left territory to cover. The defensive line would need an overhaul, other than that, I don't see us having to overhaul other positions due to scheme.
I am no expert and many in here are so if I am wrong, please educate me.
Our defense is bad, very bad so the question becomes a minor tweak needed or a major one.

A 3-4 places bodies more in the middle of the field as well. Yes, one less body at DT, but that body is then 10-15 yards from LOS in pass situations. I always wondered why we use a 4-3 base versus a 3-4.
I hope ZT is at least entertaining the possibility of changing to a base 3-4.

Well just getting a new DC is a major one, im sure we will invest a bit more on defense in FA and draft, so really just depends on what DC we hire and what they want to play

Wasn't Pierce the Raiders DC before becoming the HC midseason?

Nope, LB coach. He was co-DC at Arizona State in 2020, with Marvin Lewis coincidentally, and then he was full time DC for them in 2021. That's his only DC experience.
