RE: BREAKING: Bengals give Trey Hendrickson permission to be traded - samhain - 03-19-2025 (03-19-2025, 04:58 PM)THE PISTONS Wrote: Plus, a lot of the ends I see mocked to go to us weight 240-250 lbs. I don't see us doing that. I still like Green. Idc how big he is. He plays a lot bigger than his listed weight and is strong as hell. I think he and Pearce are going to produce right away. Big fan of Jihaad as well. I thought he was bigger than he actually is FWIW. I'd be happy to see him be the pick. IMO it's not out of the question to take a safety, either. They're taking a big risk if they go into the season with Stone and Battle as the guys. One is a bad athlete for the position and the other (Battle) still has some questions about being able to hold it down at this level. I'd like the group a lot more if Stone could be a 3rd guy like he was in Baltimore with a higher upside draft pick stepping in. Doubt Nick E. makes it to us, but they should run to the podium if he does. Starks would be another obvious choice. It comes down to whether you think a stronger secondary brings the most bang for the buck or additional pass rush makes the whole unit better. I'm not sure there's a correct answer, but they have to hit on the pick either way. Heck, elite S, elite DE. 1 playmaker on defense in addition to Trey and the defense gets so much better. Truth. An elite player at any of those positions would take our D to another level. We have a bunch of solid guys besides Trey is about all we got. Logan when he was healthy and Golden was his LB coach looked like he could be elite maybe, but he just hasn't been the same the last few years. I think Dax has elite potential but he also has had trouble staying healthy and has been moved all over the place stunting his growth. (03-19-2025, 05:15 PM)samhain Wrote: I still like Green. Jalon Walker, Walter Nolen, Kenneth Grant. One of these players should fall to us. The guy is a great pass rusher and good stopping the run. He shouldnt cost too much money. I would love to have him sign with the Bengals but Im not sure we have room if we are considering drafting a DE Would love it if we brought in Za'darius Smith myself. I don't know if it was just a slip or if the Bengals are actually thinking about this and using Lee at center and then grabbing a guard in the draft. Interesting take, if that's what the Bengals are thinking and why they have been so quiet in FA on the guard pursuit. Has Karras played RG? I know he played LG in New England... (03-19-2025, 04:41 PM)BenZoo2 Wrote: True. Rapien tweeted a list of guys the bengals could add to improve roster. The usual guards were mentioned. Calais Campbell. Great player but I don’t the need now. Another name that caught my eye was safety Julian Blackmon of the colts. I like these thoughts as well, is Blackmon a FS or a SS? Judon was leading the league in sacks a few years back, couldn't be worse than most of our Ends. Would love Calais in stripes, just doubt we sign a guy that old even if he is still good. I watched Ole Miss a few times last year and Nolen stood out in a great way to me. If there is a concern, it is his character. Plus Murphy is an End, not a 3-tech like Nolen. Don't really see the comparison. I hate when they pick those kinds of players regardless of position. I live in the heart of SEC country where at least 5-6 SEC games are aired every Saturday. ACC, SEC, and thankfully now BIG10 with the FOX acquisition. Ts, if you get a chance go watch some tape on Nolen. I think it will help to ease your concern a little. Unless a player like Warren, Booker, or Jackson falls; Nolen and Grant are the two clear choices or so it seems. We drafted Geno Atkins, we can draft other studs with new Defensive coaches. I think that is my argument to signing Tre and trade Tee, much easier to find a replacement WR than Dline RE: $125 million for 3 Players - Bengalbug - 03-19-2025 (03-19-2025, 06:44 PM)Essex Johnson Wrote: I think that is my argument to signing Tre and trade Tee, much easier to find a replacement WR than Dline Except for the fact, not assumption, that WR has the lowest probability of panning out from the draft. The Least Likely. It is true that no rookie End is going to get 17+ sacks as a rookie, but we don't know if Trey will equal that again either. I was for trading Tee, but in the end I am happy he is back for a while to hopefully prove he can stay healthy and he is just entering his prime. Not a lot of WR depth in this Draft either. You omitted that. Russ had one of the best games of his life against us in that first matchup. It was the only game he got above 300 yards last season, let alone 400. It was also one of Lou’s absolute worst coaching performances, right up there with the Mike White game. I mean, I guess you can hang your hat on the fact that he didn’t ball out again the 2nd time, but for me the competition was a huge factor during that winning streak. Its also not like they havent used premium picks on the offense in the past 5 years either The difference is the guys on offense actually hit and deserved to be paid. We need some of the defensive picks to do that now. That's why I'm so hooked on Nick Emmanwori. Getting an air traffic controller back in the middle of the secondary will fix a lot of things wrong with the defense, as well as make life easier for the front four to get to the QB. Its also not like they havent used premium picks on the offense in the past 5 years either Not all picks are equal though. Higgins was 33 that’s basically the same as Dax Hill at 31. It’s been just three top 50 picks on D in 8 years and that includes Kris Jenkins at 49 last year. Compare that to the four top 20 picks on O in that time frame. The last three R2 picks on O were 46, 33 and 52. Compare that to D which was 49, 60 and 60. The last three R3 picks on D were 95, 95 and 97. The last R3 O pick was Burton at 80, then 83 and 85. Usually a draft class is something like 1-5 1A 6-15 1B 15-25 1C 26-40 2A 41-55 2B etc The distribution will vary a little each year but this year they’ve got a shot at a 1B player on D for the first time since 2008. That should be massive for this D. They could get a 2B as well. That might be the biggest injection of draft defensive talent on paper since Pollack and Thurman. We need some of the defensive picks to do that now. It's much easier to hit when you are picking in the top 5, twice. Those are generally cant miss picks. Mims was picked 17th. Jonah Williams was 11th. The highest pick Zac has spent on defense was Myles Murphy at #28. Overall Zac Taylor has spent 7 1st and 2nd round picks on offense vs 5 on defense. Also, the picks on offense have been much higher so all picks are not the same. Offense: 1, 5, 11, 17, 33, 46, 52 Defense: 28, 31, 49, 60, 60 |
