Max Klare- TE Ohio State? - BFritz21 - 05-06-2025 Max Klare is transferring from Purdue to Ohio State this season, which I don't like because it could improve his draft status immensely. He's a Cincinnati kid from St X High School. He's 6'4, 240, and a hell of an athlete and receiver. I think he could make our offense pretty unstoppable because you have defenders running with them or playing deep and he'd kill it running routes underneath them or just up the seam. Here are some highlights: He's projected as going in rounds 2-4, which he'd be about our fifth need, but if we can be active in free agency and satisfy our needs at DL, C, S, and OT, I think he'd be a hell of an addition to our offense. I'm hoping transferring doesn't boost his stock all that much or there's just not many teams with a high need at TE. Thoughts? Klare did pretty well last year, putting up 51 receptions for 685-4. However, if Klare follows the tradition for Ohio St TEs, he'll end up having under 500 yards receiving and he'll be underwhelming in the NFL like many TEs coming out of Ohio St for at least the past 25 years. If that tradition continues, it may actually help Klare drop in value as a sleeper. The coaches seem like they want to use him and have a plan on how to do it, so much so that some people even think that he'll break records for OSU tight ends. He even left Purdue to become a more complete tight end at OSU and to develop more, so it sounds like he knows what he needs to do. I think Burrow would make him a star. You kinda just made my point. At Ohio St, TEs are expected to block. They aren't usually just big receivers. I salute Klare for leaving a target-rich environment at Purdue to go try to become well-rounded at Ohio St if that's true. With that said though, if Ohio St uses him like they do other TEs, he'll be more of a balanced TE and likely be used less in the passing game but get far more experience blocking. That can be great for his overall development, but it might result in less stats put up, which may end up keeping him more under the radar come draft time. He can line up all over the field and is agile and a lot faster and quicker than his 4.7 40 time suggests. I've said it all before, but I think he'd be Burrow's best friend in the red zone, as a safety net, and just all over the field because, with teams doubling Chase and showing Higgins extra attention, Klare would be single covered by a safety or a backer, which give me those matchups all day. Gronk - 4.68 Kincaid - 4.71 Eifert - 4.68 Mark Andrews - 4.67 Just to name a few. I've given up hope Bengals ever drafting a "good" TE in the Taylor era though. They've had opportunity after opportunity since 2019 and have never pulled the trigger. Worth noting that if the 4.7 wasn't at the Combine you need to add at least .07 to the time. That's the accepted difference between Combine and Pro Day times. I don't know how much more you'd have to add for an informal timing at practice or something. Also Gronk did that time while at least 25 pounds heavier, Andrews at least 15 pounds, Eifert at least 10. (If this kid's self-reported weight can be trusted to be accurately high.) Fair, but the average 40-time for TEs is 4.67, so a 4.70 is right there. It's possible for a TE even in today's NFL to be successful with around that speed. If Klare can run probably 4.72 or faster along with demonstrating proven receiving ability and not have much of a dropoff after transferring to Ohio St, he could be a high draft pick. Teams value blocking in TE of course, but you're more likely to see a receiving TE with less blocking ability be taken earlier compared to a TE who is a great blocker but far less experience/proven ability as a pass catcher. Certain teams though do care about having their TEs block more than others. |
