Regardless of the outcome, I don't see how Mixon is on the team in 2023. The money doesn't even remotely make sense.
Uh oh Joe Mixon

To me a running back is more valuable than a tight end and we could have our pick at the bottom of the 1st.
Tight ends tend to take a while to develop. Running backs are good to go right away. Running backs are used on at least 1/3 of our plays. Tight ends get 3 catches per game, but do block as well. All this makes me lean towards running back in the 1st and tight end on day 2. Add to this how attractive it is to get a 5th year option with an explosive back (making the salary cap work paying WR1,2 and QB1. I much prefer a rookie running back to a veteran running back. Running backs fall off a cliff quick with injuries.

I like to stay in the innocent until proven guilty camp. But two gun related incidents are not a good look for him or the team. Curious what the cba says about cutting players who are only in the “allegedly” category before they’ve been proven guilty.
And he had seemingly put the punch incident behind him and been fine since being here Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Last year, TEs accounted for 92 targets in the regular season (over 15% of the target share). They had 73 receptions (over 17% of the total receptions). On a per-game look, that's 5.4 targets and 4.3 receptions per game. You're right that it's not as high as the RBs, but it's not like the Bengals had a terrible RB. They had a bad run-blocking OL (esp. the left side), and also possibly a bad running game playcaller. Personally, I don't care to have a 5th year option for a RB, as the option is going to be expensive too. Draft a rookie in Rds 2-4, wait until their rookie contract is up, then draft another.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive. Sorry for Party Rocking!

I'm just waiting for Soonerpeace to come in here and tell us how, no matter what, Mixon isn't going anywhere and we are all wrong.

Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

June 1st cut and just put this whole mess to bed. Not saying he is guilty or not but this franchise has worked to hard to separate itself from this sort of image.

I was thinking that he'll be here next season, but we're going to be drafting a RB early this year...
Hopefully this is just a BS charge, but it's getting worrisome that different charges keep coming up.

Here's why... NFL has 20 years at this point of proven track records that the O line is more responsible for the running game than the actual running back. The O line has a HUGE impact on avg yard per carry over the actual ball carrier. And RBs go down a lot any more. The Bengals need blockers and a scheme that works with interchangeable pieces. - This really started to become an apparent trend when those early 2000s Broncos teams would go down to their 3rd or 4th RB and STILL be able to move chains and threaten. Now we see RBs go down all the time and teams with good lines be able to still run just fine. Look how Perine faired when Mixon left. I actually think the run game got BETTER. If not anything but more consistent at what the Bengals needed out of the position. - A strong TE, on the other hand, will force the safeties to stay inside instead of playing high and wide on the hash marks. A TE who's a threat on mid to deep out, seam, and post routes would force singles on at least 1 of the WRs (Chase or Higgins). The Bengals were KILLED last year without any threats over the middle of the field. A great TE would allow the Bengals to move pieces around and STILL hit the entire route tree due to how the defenses have to react and move pieces around to cover (for example) Chase in the slot. I will say this on TEs.... There are maybe 3 or 4 great ones who are siginifiicant difference makers in the entire league - and they can block. If the Bengals can find one of those in this draft... odds are strong there is at least 1 because the TE class this year is WILDLY strong... it will open up a TON of possibilities. Sam Laporta would be interesting. Hell, they should take 2 TEs in this draft it is so talented. I think it is 7 or 8 guys deep with at least 3rd round grades on them. That is IMPRESSIVE! - RB wise I actually really like the kid from Minnesota, Ibrahim as a mid to late rounder. The Bengals issue will be that they have NO blocking RB on the roster. If they can cut Mixon and sign Elliot who can be short yardage/blocking duties while drafting an every down speed/hands guy it would be a home run. I also love the RB from UCLA, but that would require at least a 2nd rounder and I hate that.

I hate this for the young man who came to Cincinnati and shed a checkered past and grew into a professional. I really don't think the charges match because we'd have known weeks ago "If" charges were warranted. Its the powers that be that try to tarnish reputations. Now I will say that this coming out now sort of makes it easier for a team to cut ties and move away before drafting a replacement in 20+ days... I'm just saying lets give Mix his due process plz before jumping to anymore conclusions outside the court of law. |
