I think it's very true that the Bengals will be very cautious with Burrow. There's no reason not to be.
Now, does that mean he won't be out there on Sept 10? Given the calf strain happened so early in camp, I think there's a decent chance he's out there. It will have been like 6 weeks from the time the strain occurred.
With that said, if something happens trying to practice between now and that game, it couldpotentially push back his first game he'll play, and we won't know until that actually happens.
At this point, he's done so well without much of an offseason in his career that I don't really care whether he plays or not.
And the Bengals showed last year that even starting 0-2 won't doom them. They are definitely a late-season team (which is really the exact opposite of a Marvin team).
“Do they think Joe Burrow will be healthy and ready to play Week 1?”
“No.”
Lie: to create a false or misleading impression.
I’d say she meets the definition of a lie.
Never mind. Already covered.

We don't ultimately know what "they" think. WE think he'll be ready Week 1 based on the time and severity of the injury.
We had been told by Taylor it was a vague "several weeks," which could be 4, it could be 8, we don't fully know.
It's also possible that Dianna heard "Do YOU think..." and then gave her answer.
Y'all are too critical of these reports/opinions, I swear.
It doesn't matter what anyone's opinion is on this matter or any other matter for when someone THINKS something will happen. It will happen if/when it happens.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

I think it's just a case of wishful thinking. There are plenty of people out there who just don't want the Bengals to mess up the Chief's or the Bill's chances.

I get reporters especially sports personalities giving their opinions, she did make it sound more factual than it really was (not saying she had sources but eluding to it), and that is where opinions become misleading.

Several, by definition is not 7 or 8, that would be "many." When Mike asks if the Bengals think he will be ready in 31 days, she says "no, no!" A responsible journalist would sa: The Bengals aren't telling us anything, which begs the question "will he be ready by week one."

Not sure that's true actually, based on definitions from Merriam Webster.
Several definition:
An indefinite number more than two and fewer than many
Many definition:
Consisting of or amounting to a large but indefinite number
Where does it say in those definitions that 7 or 8 is considered many vs several?
Sounds like those could easily fall into the category of several.

Just a guess but maybe it is because her show is produced by FanDuel and he isn't interested in being associated with sports betting and other forms of gambling they offer like their online casino ?
Or it is because Brad called her out on Twit and apparently Brad and Burrow are tight.

It is possible she heard “do you think” instead of “do they think”, but then she went on to explain what the Bengals think. Not what she thought. Based upon her answer, I think she heard the question correctly.

Fair.
Is it possible though that she may have talked to someone within the organization and they gave her their opinion, therefore that's what gave her the impression?

I listened to her comments on ESPN radio which Nepa alluded to last week. The host of the show who played her sound bite pointed out there had been no updates on Joe Burrow’s prognosis.
So sure, she may have heard something, but ESPN Radio was quick to point out no one had heard anything almost within the same breath (to include their own reporting.)
It’s difficult for me to believe her update when another ESPN personality was reporting there wasn’t an update and the Bengals didn’t report an update other than it would be several weeks from when Zac Taylor said it would be several weeks.
It is possible she misheard the question. It is possible she answered based upon what she thought and not what the Bengals thought. It is possible she received an update. Despite evidence to the contrary. When I combine one possibility with another with another that possibility becomes less and less likely until it strains credulity. Although, admittedly, not impossible.

The confidentiality around the entire thing is getting weird at this point.
Like, I get not being super specific about injuries...but at this point you're not really harming anything if you give more specifics about where he's at.

The whole competitive advantage thing is overblown in my opinion. It’s not like the Cleveland Browns are shaking in their boots to face Joe Burrow’s back up. The opponent will prepare as if Burrow is the starter. If Burrow plays the opposing defense will test his mobility. In my opinion, the secrecy gains them no competitive advantage and it’s pretty ridiculous.
But, there isn’t anything in the Bengals’ history that indicates they’re going to stop handling how they have always done.

Right.
Like if he were injured during the season I get being discrete about it and not giving too many details (I guess) but to keep doing it now 3 weeks out from the start of the season when he's most likely back soon is just something...

I read this and thought you were talking about the Chef's and Bill's chances. I assumed Bill was Belichick but "who's the Chef? Is that Rodgers' new name? Maybe Tomlin? How do I not know this..." Just scratching my head in confusion.
Then I read it again and... yeah, I'm clear now. False alarm lol

its a muscle injury where one bad step can send healing back weeks or months. If that happens people will accuse Zac of lying about Joe's injury in the first place. He learned his lesson trying to be honest about AJ Green's ankle problem. It is better to stay non-commital than build up hopes

Was he honest about AJ Greens’s injury? He gave a generic prognosis for a generic ankle sprain much the same way he has done with Burrow’s calf injury. I’ve always suspected Green’s prognosis wasn’t accurate because they didn’t report the severity of the injury accurately just like the team did with Rich Braham’s tibial plateau fracture they reported as a bone bruise.

Yeah, some coaches are like that. I am an Oregon fan and Oregon's former coach Mario Cristobal was like this. If someone was injured, you got zero specifics. It was a policy of his to not discuss injuries in-depth. Seems like Zac is the same way.
