That or an utter collapse by the Dbacks and Marlins.
I'd say
There's 8 games left and to maintain any hope they need to win the bulk of them. One loss ? maybe still alive ? two it's over. Unless like you say the others spit the bit, bad.

Not ready to say that yet. Marlins just lost and Cubs are losing 11-7 in the 7th. If that holds we are still just 1 game back. On paper Reds have the easiest remaining schedule.
Reds
3 vs Pit
2 @ Cle
3 @ STL
Miami
3 vs Mil
3 @ NYM (Just lost 2 of 3 to them at home)
3 @ Pit
Cubs
1 vs Pit
3 vs Col
3 @ Atl
3 @ Mil
Blowing the game today with how the other games are playing out hurts but this is by no means over yet.

Well, the Reds lost a close one today. Still in the hunt, but winning at least 6 of the last 8 games would help. Either way still a great season.

Oh it's not over, over. We just kinda have the hardest row to hoe. The Philles and D'backs are in, one spot left.
Cubs 79-73
Marlins 79-74
Reds 79-75
Dark Horse - Giants 76-76
We're two games behind the Cubs in the loss column. You can't make up those loses! We lose two we're at 77 loses, the Cubs have to lose 5 to end up below us. If we lose three it gets worse and so on.
Or in other words we have to win, win, win to stay in it.

If the reds make it do you think they have a shot?

Sure. This team is capable of getting hot like any team. They have the talent, they are just banged up. If Hunter Greene pitches like he did last night and Connor Phillips pitches like he did on Monday, we would be a threat to handle just about any team. Remember, we're doing what we're doing now without McLain and with Elly being the coldest he's ever been.
If Elly returns to first month Elly and McLain comes off the IL, along with Greene and Phillips playing up to their potential, winning 4 out of 7 is reasonable against any team.
Last year the Phillies snuck into the playoffs, taking the final spot over the Brewers by 1 game. They went 87-75. They made it all the way to the World Series. I could easily see the Reds doing the same.

Cubs are playing one of those 2 games tonight. They have lost 5 of the last 6 so they are not playing well and easily have the toughest schedule left so i'm optimistic. Either way it's nice to see the Reds have meaningful games this late in the season.

Saw an article on google that the Cincinnati media is calling EDLC a big bust. Finally, someone sees it like me.

That headline was clickbait nonsense. And the writer is (rightfully) getting absolutely slammed for it. The actual article was a little more nuanced, as it suggested Elly could very well still become a good player. He just isn’t right now.
But labeling a kid who’s 21 years old, has played in less than 100 games, and has the physical and natural talent that he does a bust is beyond silly. It’s up to him and the coaches to put in the work to fix his decencies going forward.

Cubs lose 8-6. Pirates really tried hard to give it away. They were up 5-1 going to the bottom of 8 and Cubs got 3 runs to make it 5-4. Pirates got the 3 runs back in the top of 9 to make it 8-4. Cubs got 2 runs from the first 2 batters in the bottom of 9 on a 2 run homer. Thankfully next 3 batters all made outs. Reds only 1/2 game back.

Half game back of both Cubs and Marlins. Marlins hold the tiebreaker.

If anyone had said the Reds would still be in the running for the playoffs now on opening day everyone would have wanted whatever they were smoking.. Pretty impressive for a team whose pitching staff has been the walking disaster zone all season..

Right on
A bust?? get the hell outta here. He just needs to learn to calm down a little, he tries too hard. That's just part of being young.

Cubs are currently playing and up 3-0 in the 6th. Looking like we'll need a win to keep up.

The Cubs game is on MLBN using the Cubs TV feed. Their announcers just made the dumbest comment. They were talking about the wildcard race and how both the Reds and Marlins own tiebreakers on them. Then they brought up the run differential and how Cubs have +91 while the Marlins are -42 and Reds -47. It's like a lightbulb went off at that point and they were like, you know run differential should be the top tiebreaker because it shows they have been more dominate. You almost want to put your head through a wall after hearing that because logic tells you if that were the case there would be no race right now.
