I'm so hoping Hinds can shove Benson into a pure bench player role. I had high hopes for Benson this season, just liked his personality and such. But good gosh you just can't afford to have a regular player batting .185 or whatever striking out 2-3 times a game. He's damn near an automatic out.

And I know with Hinds there's the years of control and rookie status and such. And I don't know enough about that to comment much on it. But my lord Benson is one of the things killing this offense.

And I'm a Reds fan and I'm ready, so ready to send Benson back to minors. The end of this season is getting closer and closer. We need to win, now.

I still watched the Bengals when they sucked and will always do the same with the Reds. I don't need post-season success to make me root for a team that has one hand tied behind their back by bad management, a bad GM and bad owners while facing teams with almost unlimited budgets. That's also why I've become a bit of a fan of the Pirates and their manager Derek Shelton(29th in payroll). I also don't need post-season success to enjoy watching the growth of young players, especially Greene, Lodolo and Steer.

Friedl and Lodolo are coming back and McLain was just cleared to begin training. This is the best pitching staff that they've had in a looooong time. Castillo, Gray and Cy Young winner Bauer were the last pitching staff to make it to the (expanded) playoffs but that was only a 60 game season. All that they have to do is pick up 3.5 games a month to win the division. I don't expect them to win the division, but if they pick up only 2 games a month, they're in the Wild Card slot. They can be sellers and buyers at the same time. Montas and Candelerio are producers that are expendable and if the Reds can pick up a power hitting outfielder, make that

The Cincinnati Reds bandwagon needs steps because us fans have cramps from jumping on and off. It seems like every year we go through this when they show us they are a Major League Baseball contender, and then soon after, they flop. Last year, all management needed was a player or two and could have made a wild card birth but no, they stand pat. This year, they play good teams great (sweep the New York Yankees) and come home and cannot beat an out-of-it (probably ready to sell players) Detroit Tigers team.

I must say they are consistent. As management said in the pregame, they are looking for "consistency." They are consistently bad against teams they should beat. How can players like Elly De La Cruz strike out so much against bad teams and have fielding errors like they are Little League players. Plus, they say your team manager loses four or five games a year with his decisions. I think Reds Manager David Bell has already exceeded that number before the All-Star break with his not changing pitchers early enough, to pulling them too soon, to his bungling a one-out "contact run" play that lost the recent game against the Tigers in the ninth inning. 
Hey Reds, you are better than this! Tired of excuses, we fans want results because other teams have players on the injured list, and we are tired of jumping on, and now off, the bandwagon, so get your act together. Please.

He's creating new baseball fans. He's one of the faces of the sport right now. It's quite a sight to behold.

We need to pay him whatever he asks for after his 6 years of control are up (since his agent has already said he doesn't believe it's in the best interest of the star player to sign for 8 to 10 years early in their career).

Let's hope that he's got some genuine physical longevity in his genetics, the Reds don't need another Joey Votto type of situation where they're still paying a player long after he's started to decline.

Votto signed his contract extension when he was 29. His first complete major league season was 2008 (he was called up in September 2007, right before he turned 24), so he signed his extension prior to his 5th full season in the majors.

If Elly signed a 10 year extension prior to his 5th major league season, which would be 2028, he'd be 35 in that final season of 2037.

At 35, Joey Votto was still an elite player. He didn't start going downhill until 2022 when he was 38.

The question I would have is does Elly age as well as Votto di? What makes Elly so special is his speed and speed does degrade over time. He will be 28 at the beginning of the 2030 season, which is the first season that he will be a free agent. If he turns into what we expect him to be, a 28 year old super star will want a long term deal, so they'd have to decide in that moment if they're willing to risk that down turn as he ages into his 30s.

We obviously have a lot of time to see how he develops, but I wouldn't bet against him.

Everything in that article has been discussed in here multiple times and I wouldn't know about being a bandwagon fan.

Does the Cincinnati Enquirer only post articles about the Reds after a loss?

Hinds is tearing it up. I hope he can keep it up, we need some offensive lift, to say the least.

It's fun to see Hinds off to a hot start. Let's hope he adjusts when pitching starts to figure him out. It would be wonderful if this dude quickly establishes himself as a capable starting OF with consistent power.

I know this comparison has a horrific connotation nowadays, but this debut feels exactly like when Aristedes Aquino came up and hit 14 home runs in the first month of his career. Every time he came up to the plate, you were waiting for him to regress back to the mean and, for a month, he just didn't. 

Aquino and Hinds have similar profiles as rocket arm outfielders with insane power, but also massive swing and miss in their games. Aquino had more success in AAA, but he also spent more time there than Hinds. I personally think AA stats are more important than AAA stats because of how many "career minor leaguers" end up mired in AAA, which dilutes the pool of major league prospects that you play against while there, whereas AA is where a significant portion of the development of major league prospects occurs, often with just a toe dip in AAA before going up to the majors (see McLain, who spent an entire year in AA, but played just a month or so in AAA in 2023 before being called up), and Hinds showed better in AA than Aquino did (.272/.329/.544/.873 vs .227/.293/.421/..714)

I really hope the Reds learned their lesson from Aquino and help Hinds out in a way that they were incapable of helping Aquino.

It'll definitely help that Hinds does not have that awkward batting stance that Aquino had where he started fully open towards the pitcher and then twisted his lower body 90 degrees as the ball approached.
