Something tells me it's not burrows calf or any other excuse, it's Burrow's preference to play the way the offense is called.

FWIW, the run game was actually a bright spot yesterday...
Moss had a 4.9 YPC.

The problem was they only ran the ball 16 times total because they were behind all game.

We should be far more concerned with the fact the Bengals had under 200 yards passing and never had the lead once.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Lol what do you think is more likely? That, for the rest of the year, the offense is much more like it has been the last 4 years + week one this year, or it magically changes because we hope it does?

I only disagree with you because I think the wrist injury is causing Burrow serious issues.  A scared Burrow is an offense like we saw.

Burrow has to be wondering every throw if that tendon is going to snap again and end his career.  Not just throws either.  Tackles that might force him to land on that hand.  The mind f*** from that must be enormous.  Look at the final play someone posted and walked through it.  Burrow is in bad shape.  At the end you can see Chase is really mad Burrow didn't go to him wide open for the first.

Is it no one open or is it Burrow sucking and playing scared?

Burrow was definitely NOT good yesterday which can make it difficult to identify fault, but we have this conversation every year.  With the lack of explosiveness at WR I would think we would have seen some better scheming and more of the run game.  There is no doubt that poor QB play and low level players will not be successful regardless of scheme.

Fair, but it got going later, which to me is fine.

You can say bad things about the Chiefs' running game too.
Only 20 attempts (27th in league after Week 1), 72 rush yards (also 27th in league), and 3.6 YPC (25th in league).

Their passing game, which has always been their strength, carried them.

I don't frequent Chiefs boards, but are fans clamoring for them to completely change their identity and become a balanced or even run-heavy offense?
I would think not.

As such, I don't think it's realistic to expect the Bengals to do that either.
Bengals are a pass-heavy team and we should expect the pass to set up the run.
Bengals ended up with 4.4 YPC, which is 14th in the league. Being middle of the pack from an efficiency standpoint would be a marked improvement compared to previous years.

Why would they be?  They just won 2 SB's in a row, are going for number 3 to make NFL history and they just beat the Ravens in their home opener.  lol.

I’d have to know if the Pats adjusted to allow the better results later in the game. I definitely agree with your entire post.

But this offense if it’s going to get going has to do better on first down. The first series first play Moss gets 4 yards then the next play Joe is sacked. Second series Moss play 1 he gets 1 yard. Play 2 he gets 3 yards. Joe scrambles for first down but Cappa penalty negates it and on third and 6 we get 5 on a pass to Hudson. Next series a sack forced a punt on third and 3. So the first series is ruined by a sack. The second series by a penalty by Cappa. The third series a sack on third and 3 ( sounds like a poor play call) 4th series Brown 4 yard run play 1. 4th series Hudson fumble. So the first half we had 2 sacks, a penalty, and a fumble all influencing the 0 points. Halftime. Force Pats to punt first series and Jones fumbles. Pats kick FG.
Next series get moving and Isovias picks up 3 of the 4 yards needed on 4th down. The next series we go 90 yards 9 plays. TD.

The bottom line is we had 8 possessions. A penalty effected 1. 3 sacks effected 3. We fumbled on 1 at the goal line. We scored on 2. That leaves 2. Got stopped on 4th down. And the last one (was the last one) Joe had his worst series.

love Joe burrow and we saw the best of him...but that injury could very easily be a career killer....is the worst possible thing that could happen to a quarterback..you start getting arthritis almost immediately and major trauma..very bad...oh well..Joe covered the deficiencies on this team..don't think he will be able to do so moving forward..I appreciate patience  when it comes to making major decisions ..but had I owned this team..Taylor and Pilcher would have been gone after that game..just terrible ..as Joe Mixon runs for over 160 yards for the Texans..I think Burrows frustration during and after the game had nothing to do with score..but he knows something is amiss with that wrist

It has been lonely here, by myself, the past few years. I held the line, grew weary but never wavered.

Burrow is in his head and you know Mike Brown is paying for that sports psychologist (sarcasm, do we even have one on staff?).

I think he has a constant reminder to stay in his head, since his wrist is probably hurting. He doesn't want to lose all grip strength like he did last year. It will take a beast of a mind to get over that, but I do think Burrow is built for that. He's just not ready yet.

Imagine the pain he is feeling when throwing is similar to last year before the snap and couldn't hold the ball anymore, he needs a psychologist lol. A snap of that ligament would now look career ending, that is too much to process along with the actual game going on.

I have no pain throwing a football, most of us don't. Once you start feel pain your first inclination is to try again to see if the pain is still there, then you stop.

It's only his first real game back, since he doesn't see any real action in practice or preseason. Nobody is trying to hurt him in practice. It takes Burrow time, that he has shown.
Burrow threw plenty of passes in training camp...Do some research on the wrist injury he suffered..A couple of months ago I spke to a physical therapist in my hospital..we discussed Burrows injury and surgery..He just shook his head and said not good..the worst possible thing that could happen to a quarterback..Arthritis sets in pretty rapidly after a surgery like that and of course he could reinjure ...But we were blessed for a time..to see the best of Burrow

I'm certainly not going to argue that Burrow has looked like a top QB (outside of a few games) since the 2022 playoffs. I don't know what it is. Our offense is clunky, unimaginative, and boring. Our defense straight up sucks, and it has for the majority of the the Zac Taylor era.
I'm gonna break every record they've got. I'm tellin' you right now. I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but it's goin' to get done.

This is what I think.  Seriously though, you have to feel for Burrow.  If what I bolded is really happening to him he must be beside himself and probably constantly thinking about whether he is no longer able to play like he used to or worse, it pops and he is done forever.  I can't even imagine the emotional turmoil that must cause.

And also, IF that's what's happening, I can't begin to fathom how that must effect every facet of his playing and concentration.  From prep, to workout, reading D's, etc.  Literally every snap could be an "omg what if" moment for him.

I  am hoping for a miracle turnaround Sunday.

That's my point.

There are areas the Chiefs COULD improve at (e.g. running game), but do they really need to?

We don't need the Bengals to change up their whole identity. They just need to get more efficient at running the ball.
According to Game 1, they did.

Not sure what's going on with Burrows wrist so I'm not going to speculate. Wednesday should be telling if he's a full participant or not.

Where I fault Taylor is his unwillingness to change. Past 2 years Burrow can't play in preseason because of injury I get it the team comes out flat and specifically Burrow struggles to read the field and have pocket awareness. Now this year he's healthy and we give him one series in the 1st preseason game. Again we come out flat with Burrow struggling to have pocket awareness and see the field. I think Burrow needs these live game reps of the preseason.
