Defense
#1
We haven’t talked enough about the defense and their poor performance. They were playing the worst Offense in the league and  they should have dominated. I look at this unit and I see a lack of athleticism in the back seven, a Dline with 1 pass rusher, no nose tackle on the roster ,and I see an undisciplined unit out there.

- the Tackling was piss poor

- they forced zero turnovers

-gave up three first downs on QB scrambles. The pass rush discipline was atrocious on Sunday!

If this team is going to win anything of merit this year the defense is going to have play better!

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

We are clearly the least talented defense in our division.  Lacking star players, we cannot be terrible with basic fundamentals such as setting the edge, bad angles and missed tackles.  Our pass rush is clearly Trey by himself again.

We are left hoping rookies and Murphy come back soon and make a difference.

The persennel of the defense as been mismanaged terribly the past two offseasons.

The D wasn't completely dominant, no.  And the tackling was trash, at times.

However, this is the NFL.  They held the Pats to 16, and three of those were courtesy of Chuck Drizzle.

You hold the other team to 16, you should win.  Period

Sure, but that doesnt mean the defense wasnt pretty bad.  NE has a terrible offense which likely had as much to do with their lack of scoring as our piss poor play.

We will see how this defense does against a good offense in KC.  We hold them to 16 I will concede that I was totally wrong about them.

I thought the defense played pretty decent all things considered.

Yes they missed a bunch of tackles, but other than that I'd say they were fine.

They were on the field A LOT this game and played a ton of snaps, people don't take that into consideration. Between that and the fumbled punt, they were asked to do a whole hell of a lot Sunday and I'd say they kind of stepped up.

I do have my concerns about the DT room going forward (like I did before the season started).

Defense used to be able to bail out the bootycheek offense, but the FA departures mean they can't do it anymore.

Sunday shows what happens when you rely too much on a defense to bail you out.

It wasnt all bad, just hard to discern how much is us and how bad the Pats offense is.

Pass rush is concerning.

Tackling is awful.

Despite Dax's great coverage score the slants are difficult for him.  Mahomes throws them nonstop.

Battle had 1 snap on defense?

Im not confident this week but have hopes the O and the D will improve after Sunday.

Any team that "misses a bunch of tackles", can't get to the QB especially with ZERO inside pressure and gives up the same easy inside slants for 3rd down conversions is not fine. Maybe in your world but if you really understand the game they were not fine. They got beat by a team that threw for less than 120 yards who pretty much did whatever they needed to and, more importantly, whenever they wanted to. Don't let the 16 points given up tell you differently.

You're right 16 points should win you the game but at the same time the defense should have dominated the opponent and should have made more plays.

Really the entire team looked bad and not prepared to play.

Our best hope is that by Game 4, we look a lot better like we have in the past.

The defense has been below average in points allowed in 4 of the 5 seasons Anarumo has been here.

What game were you watching? They were getting to Brissett all day, they had A TON of pressure, they just couldn't finish him off.

They gave up 13 points. One of the field goals was directly associated with the jones fumble on the 20 yard line right after the half. They gave up legit 3 points in the second half and kept the offense in the game. They got the ball back to the offense at the end of the game to drive down and win the game.

Did they get run on a little bit and miss some tackles? Yes. But they were 10000% good enough to win the game Sunday.

No one is to blame for this loss other than the offense. You people just like to complain I swear.

Offense gets the majority of the blame sure.

But the defense gave up 4 long drives and when we had to stop them and knew they were going to run, they shoved it down our throats.

The Patriots have few weapons and an extremely limited offense with Brissett, by year's end we will likely see that transpire on the stat charts.  We face a good offense this week that could prove you right.  I dont see it, but Im hoping you are.

I don't think our defense is elite or anything, I just don't think they played a bad game Sunday and were more than good enough.

They forced a 3 and out with 3 minutes left to get the ball back to the offense. That should have been it.

If an NFL defense knows a the opponenet will run the ball the next 3 plays and that team is missing oline starters, the defense must hold them, not give up TWO first downs.

You are making a totally different argument.  I never said they lost the game.   My argument is: that defense will struggle against a solid offense.  Patriots had a very weak offense.  Im concerned moving forward vs other teams.

Have to agree with Weezy, the Defense was good enough to win that game and it was the Offense and specifically Burrow that
couldn't get it done. Not targeting Chase more was a huge mistake as he was winning and getting separation on every play where
he was targeted. Moss was running the ball well and we went away from it, whether that was on Burrow, Zac or Pitcher or all 3...

We need to do what works and not go away from it. Less Shotgun, more under Center etc.

The Defense needs to tackle better, we were getting pressure besides Hubbard.
