The Pats defense is better than people think too.

Hell, NE lost 6-7 one possession games a season ago. NE has a top run defense from a year ago and if you're playing a not-so-good running team then there you have it. You're forcing a team to beat you one-dimensional. Add in Chase who hasn't even really practiced, a dropped TD, a fumble on the goal line and a fumble on a PR, well, now you're in at least a 10-13 point swing even with what everyone is claiming was a terribly-coached game by Taylor.

I think anyone of us had they come away with a W after falling behind 10-0 would have commended their character and said "even with" the dropped TD (maybe a bad call? ), a fumble on the goal line and another fumble deep in their own territory and yet they still win that this team has moxy, toughness, etc.

I am pretty sure they did overlook them. That team lost Bill Belichick and only won 4 games last season. Before the game I thought the only
way we lose is if Stevenson runs all over us and look what happened. You are correct that it was set up for them to actually give us a lot of
trouble with them being a good run Defense and us being a bad run Defense from last year.

I also agree that if we somehow did come out with a win in that one with all the bad play from us it would of been down right amazing.

Shot ourselves in the foot over and over and our QB was not himself and our tackling was horrid. To turn the ball over that much and still
only lose by 6 is honestly pretty wild lol

No excuse to lose to them.

They need to make a serious commitment to running the ball. Zack Moss looked really good on that lone Bengals TD drive. Coincidence? I don't think so.

But...I thought folks wanted us to line up under center to force teams to respect the run.

Want teams to respect the run?  Get a RB they have to respect.

Or maybe just run the ball?  A hand off on this play was definitely positive yards.

If Burrow hands that off its a 5-8 yard gain

Maybe.

The Pats react like they know it's not a run almost immediately.. Possible that they're reading someone's tells, or possibly are still doing they're old Spygate schtick after Billy left.  There are a number of instances in this one where they literally seemed to know exactly what was going on, though it could have been not wanting to break tendencies before KC.

3 missed tackles the whole game? We missed 4-5 easily on one running play.

Lou Anarumo doesn't fix this, I don't care about blaming the players, they're not that dumb, they're doing what you're telling them to do.

It isn’t hard to do when you are calling zero routes that can past 4 yards and you are in putting 5 whole defenses at intermediate range because Burrow is simply refusing to throw it deep.

Did Taylor really say that? Incredible. I do suspect they didn't play starters much in the preseason, including the starting offense only one series, because they figured the Patriots would serve that purpose, to be able to work out the kinks in a game they were sure to win.

Edit: I see that he really did say that.

you overlook any one of them you can easily lose no matter how good you are when you are on your game. Hoping it is like Weezy said and
we were just trying to barely scrape out a win so we didn't tip anything off to the Chiefs.

We sure didn't show anything good lmao!!! Hilarious

I am totally lost sometimes on this response Board..We all love our Bengals but fact of the matter this team we saw last year and two days ago...really ain't that good...lol@ not tipping off anything to the chiefs..Yes, so were are purposefully going to lose a game in hopes that we may fool an upcoming team and maybe win a game?

Why the hell would a coach ever think to say this?

This is insane

or just maybe our Bengals ain't that good..or just maybe Burrow is not healthy..etc..or just maybe because Burriow is not healthy all those coaching mistakes , poor tackling etc that he has covered up in the past ..he can longer do so

The slow starts need to stop, though.

My theory is (and they will never admit this) is that the underestimated the Pats, played vanilla on offense, and saved a lot of wrinkles and schemes for the Chiefs. That is my hope, anyway.

They really took the narrative of being the most heavily favored team in week 1 to heart.  Honestly, if not for a couple of drops and a muffed punt, they might have even gotten away with it.  They damn sure didn't deserve to.

I think that great teams in this league round into shape over the course of a season.  The team blowing the doors of of someone in week 1 isn't always faring so well come December.  KC looked very beatable for a long stretch of last season, even dropping a game to the Raiders at Arrowhead.  It's about who's hot at the right time.  It's what's so gutting about the 2022 season and how it ended.  I really thought we had the hot hand in that playoff.

We'll find out quickly who they are.  There's a prime chance to reverse narratives immediately.  I'm not sure it's that easy.  Having so few early round picks contributing is very  debilitating to a roster.  Burrow convinced no one that he's whole.

If they were playing possum, then that's a dumb strategy.  I'd rather go 3-1 in the first 4 weeks of the season than risk a game to play rope-a-dope with KC.

Meanwhile, KC rolls out endless home run picks.  They don't need years to sit.  They come in like 165 pound Worthy and assimilate then produce.  Pacheco was a 7th round pick that took the job and never looked back.  Rice contributes.  McDuffie.  Bolton.  Karlaftis.  On and on.

The Chiefs certainly have an advantage with 87 being an elite receiving option at a significant discount to actual wrs.  They also have the team friendly Mahomes deal.  That's not why they remain dominant.  They maintain a strong roster because Veach drafts his ass off.  He's a sniper hitting kill shots at long range.  We can't hit a target point blank with a bright shiny target painted on it.

This roster was always going to erode without good drafting.  Maybe Murphy is good.  Maybe Jenkins is good.  Mims might be the second coming of Water Jones.  Hard to tell when they don't play.
