Sports Athlete Of The Year 2024
#1
I don't think it's even close this year.  Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament had bigger TV ratings and seat tickets more on demand than Men's Tournament.  Now in Women's NBA, every city is selling out to see the same player.  In Las Vegas they used a bigger arena due to ticket demands to see this one player.  People are traveling from across the USA to Indy to see this one player.  Ticket sales and TV ratings have never been higher due to this one player.

Caitlin Clark has to be the Sports Athlete of The Year 2024.  Nobody has sold more tickets and created more fans since maybe Babe Ruth turned baseball into home runs over 100 years ago.   Now you can say this player did this, or this player did that,  but the fact remains that more people are watching Caitlin Clark than any other athlete in 2024.  Plus she put up College Records and WNBA Rookie Records for the packed arenas and high TV ratings of people.  Nobody in Sports in 2024, is bringing in The Fans more than Caitlin Clark.

To say anybody else is Athlete of The Year is to completely ignore The Fans breaking attendance and TV ratings records to watch her.  I'm 70 years old, and I've never seen one athlete so followed in one year by Fans like this.  To say she has changed Women's Basketball is an under statement.  I only wish I was the owner of The Indy Fever, because I couldn't count all the money pouring in.  I know this will sound like the old Hollywood movies I watch,  " but She has taken the country by storm ".  No matter the sport, the biggest drawing card in 2024 has been Caitlin Clark all year. and nobody even close 2nd.

I almost never see her get a rest as she plays the full games full court.  She doesn't slow down, her shoes are moving faster than the others. She must be in great shape to play so hard without almost never a rest.  That she went right from College Ball to playing in Pro Ball without a rest.  I really don't see how she does it.  It's as if Fatigue doesn't apply to her.

Caitlin Clark has earned the right to be on a Wheaties box. (If they still do that sort of thing)

Name anyone who had a better year than Caitlin Clark, Nelly Korda, or Scottie Scheffler.

Victor Wembanyama is a bit of a phenom, and doing it on a bigger stage...

If we are open to looking at smaller stages, then John Brzenk has been cheated for decades. Undefeated for over twenty years.

Greatest arm wrestler of all time. Check out the documentary "Pulling John" if you want to know more.

I'm going to go with Rebecca Roberts, still the strongest woman on earth.

It has to be someone who won something in the olympics I guess. It was the major sport event this year.

I'll go with Simone Biles or Katie Ledecky.

If not american it's Leon Marchand.

Mine is Tadej Pogacar who didn't make the Olympics Big Grin  But he won Giro, Tour de France, almost every race he was in and soon World Championship.
