That's pretty much where I'm at. I've never posted in this thread because I've laid it out in just about every monthly thread since I've been here.

One thing that Krall said in his press conference about the lack of growth by the young platers made me instantly reflect on the cluelessness and lackadaisical play by Marte. I wonder how much of the crap play by him and the coddling by Bell contributed to Bell's dismissal. I'm sure that the strikeout counts by Benson and De La Cruz along with the slight regression by Steer contributed, also, but I was getting tired of the Reds being an advanced AAA team and "letting guys work it out" on the MLB level.

I also liked how Krall pointed out the base running mistakes were mostly due to Bell's philosophy. I still think that Krall sucks, but I did like a few of the things that he said, which is new.

Ask Not For Whom The Bell Tolls.  HE WAS FIRED

It will be interesting to see who Reds hire as Manager this off season.  I know one Hall Of Famer who has wanted to be Reds Manager.  Barry Larkin, and shortstops make good Managers. Catchers do, but so do shortstops.  Hall Of Fame Barry Larkin might be a good influence on the players.  He wanted the job when they gave it to Bell.  

So Bell is Officially Fired.  Hopefully more Wins with the next Manager.

Cooperstown Hall of Fame Barry Larkin really has wanted the managers job, and I don't see any reason why not to give him a chance.   If they pass over Larkin, I hope he gives up on the Reds and goes on to higher things with another team.  He was in the Front Office with Washington.  If Barry Larkin wants to manage, The Reds or some team should give the Hall of Famer his chance.  Barry knows Hitting, Defense, Base Running.  He would need a good Pitching Coach.   Johnny Bench would have made a good manager knowing hitting and pitchers as a catcher, but he didn't want  the job.   Barry Larkin does want the job.  If Reds pass him over a second time, then Larkin needs to give up on Cincinnati, but is it really this hard for a great black player to get a managers job.

If Francona is in good health, he's immediately at the top of the list, and it's not close. He's mentioned wanting to return to managing before. This talent crop is very likely to be around for under 5 years. Can Terry stay healthy for five years, right the ship, then hand the job off to a readymade assistant/heir? Idk, but if the answer is a yes or even a strong maybe, then he's the guy.

I'd be good with Skip, but I think we'll have a lot of competition for his services.

Ross would be acceptable to me.

I'd give Larkin a shot, but it doesn't feel right. Barry is great, but I question his bona fides as a clubhouse stabilizer. I've never really forgiven Larkin and Griffey for running McKeon out of town. Again, 11 is a legend, but he had a bad reputation for being pretty high maintenance as a player. To me, this is a recipe for yet another player's manager.

It’s a no go on Larkin for me. Loved him as a player and Reds baseball ambassador but the man has NO managerial resume. This team needs a new staff, not just a manager replacement. I want the new guy to have the ability and relationships within the league to be able to put together his own coaching staff. There may \ will be holdovers into the new regime I have no doubt, but a new hitting coach would be great! Do they have base running coaches or is that the responsibility of the first and third base coaches? If so, evaluate the current guys and replace as needed. I’d like to retain Derek Johnson as pitching coach, but I wouldn’t be sad to see him go if the new guy is a respected name and track record.

One upside to Hall of Famer Larkin.  Often managers come in, and they say it will take time to know who the players are.....Barry Larkin knows the players from Reds down to their Single A minor leagues.  If Barry Larkin was named manager, he would know what players need to go, what players need to stay, and what players they have on the rise in the minors.  I think a Barry Larkin team would be good on Defense as he was,  Base Running as he was, and Hitting as he was.  All the Reds players listen to and respect Larkin and why not, he knows his baseball.  

Larkin really wanted the job, and they gave it to Bell.  If Larkin gets passed over again, that means Reds will never make him manager. At that point I hope Larkin leaves Cincinnati and finds a team that does want him.  However I can't see why Cincinnati hometown Larkin and Cooperstown Hall of Famer is not an option when he wants to manage the Reds with all his heart.

I've never heard any off field issues with Larkin.  He carries himself with good character.  Add in he speaks Spanish very well.  He has no communication problem with al the Latino ball players.  Just listening to him on Reds Games on TV,  he knows this team and the game of baseball and he carries himself with great character, a man you can respect and learn from.  I see many good manager qualities to Cincinnati's own, Hall of famer Barry Larkin. High on the list is he would LOVE to manage his hometown team. 

The person who said Griffey and Larkin got McKeon fired.  You must really hate Larkin.  Griffey was in Seattle when McKeon was fired, so that makes everything you said on that False.  We took our kids to Fan picture day, and before game the fans and players on the field.  The 2 best people to my kids and family were Jack McKeon and Barry Larkin.  Barry Larkin is a great guy, I saw that.  Many players acted like they really didn't like being with the Fans.  Barry Larkin loved it.  He was great to our Family.  I respect the guy.  Larkin and McKeon stood next to each other, and they were great to my Family. I have the Fan Day pictures still to prove it.

We need a vet mgr. that's going to kick ass and take names! Somebody who's not afraid to hold these guys accountable. A manager that's not scared to move Elly to RF where he belongs and to hell with what Elly wants.

A manager that can actually manage with out looking at a computer print out on the stats. This team needs a good ole fashioned kick in the pants.

16 shut outs this season, 10% of your games you don’t even score a run. It’s got to be a club record.

Well it’s hard to win a playoff spot when you only score in 90% of the games that everyone else plays in.

If the hitting coach retains his job, I will be shocked.

This team has never played for a base hit or contact all year. Everyone is in it to see how far the can hit the baseball and be on ESPN highlights.
