Bates did play great his rookie season, not as good his sophomore season and fantastic in the Playoffs for us.

But we were never going to bring him back, it was always Bell and hoping someone could grow into the future FS. It is not Dax.

Luckily Dax is finding his nitch at boundary Corner at times, just needs to tackle better.

Stone hasn't been that good with us either, too bad.

Yeah, I'd go back and pull up some of the threads where people were complaining about Bates, but it's not worth the effort and I've never really learned the search function here.

Well he's balling out in ATL and meanwhile we're getting poor play from our safeties!

So the FO had a terrible plan and were not allowed to call them out on it? Also why were the never going to sign  Bates? The guy was a great player for us on and off the field?

People were wrong then about Bates. Every other team would have signed him in the 2021 offseason.

If that is your argument fine. I get that looking back we should of extended Bates. That wasn't my argument.

Was just saying when we put him on the Tag he didn't play as well. Not even close to what he is playing like in Atlanta.

Just a couple of posts from the past....

Quote:Some of this has to be on coaching/preparation.

The worst: Jesse Bates is at 29.3 on the year. That's the lowest PFF rating I ever recall seeing! He was looking like a future Pro Bowl player last year.

Williams: 42.7
Webb - 33.2
William Jackson - 43.2
Kirkpatrick - 54.2
Vigil - 42.5
Preston Brown - 52.4

This is bad considering Lou was a Secondary whisperer.

Jesse Bates.........24
Nick Vigil............23
Shawn Williams...22

I have a saying.  "When a player stinks look at the player.  When ALL the players stink look at the coaching."

Tackling is a basic skill that all of these guys learned in college.  I don't know how it could be blamed on the coaches unless these guys were missing tackles because they were out of position and not getting good clean tackle attempts.
Jesse was great when he was on, but it's not like he didn't have struggles as well.

I fI remember correctly, didn't he have a terrible season after the SB year and then decided to play good in playoffs?
I liked Bates as much as the next fan, liked it when we drafted him, but I wouldn't have overpaid him to stay here.

I have seen Vonn Bell get beat the most this season in coverage.

I think that says more about Kelce than it does our players. Kelce hasn’t looked himself all season. Age is getting to him

Yeah, that's my point. People remember Playoff Jesse fondly, and watch him having a good season in Atlanta, and now lament that the Bengals did not overpay him to stay. They tend to forget all the struggles Bates had here and some of the trash they wrote about him. Like I said, absence makes the heart grow fonder.... I liked Bates, but I would not have paid what he wanted either for that safety position. If he played like Playoff Jesse all the time, then maybe, but he didn't. Just like if Andy was always "Good Andy" and never "Bad Andy" he would still be here.

I know guys have ways of seeing, but did Battle get any plans in? With the injury to Dax, thought a little more playing time. is he just that bad that he cant get on the field?

He gave up a huge 1st down on a 3rd down to Andrews.

Battle gave up a big competition in the second half in man coverage vs Andrews. I know people are on rhe Battle train but he is an average a best coverage safety but had a bunch of run stops last year on a bad rush defense.

The moment Vonn Bell got burned by the TE I was yelling for Battle.  He got in there for a few plays in the second half and whiffed badly on a sure tackle.  Is it the age of the defense or age of the DC?

I had to deal with my daughter a few times and must have missed it. Guess good I did. So do we just draft the worst players ever?
