Ed Reed in his first 3 years had 21 INT, was a 1st Team All-Pro, and was a Defensive Player of the Year... and wasn't wildly up-and-down in performance year-to-year. Yes, they would have extended him.

Isolating the issue to Stone is wrong. The whole secondary is back to their problem last year where they sit in their zones and don’t flow to the play. They aren’t reacting or if they do it is slow.

While Stone isn't the only issue with the secondary, it can't be denied that much fuss was made over his INT to snaps played ratio. The fact that Duke and Lou took a look at him and though he was a diamond, only to turn out to be CZ, tells us much about their talent evaluation skills..

This is not surprising to anybody that has actually followed Geno Stone. He was a practice squad/back-of the roster guy who only saw significant snaps because two of the Ravens safeties got hurt last year. If you watch his interceptions last year, a couple of them were good plays, but the majority of them were terrible throws by the QB that he was standing there for.

The folks that clearly had never watched him play several seasons saw 7 INT and assumed he was good. INTs rarely carry over and he is showing who he has shown to be for the majority of his career. Practice squad/back of the roster depth guy that can play well in a defined, niche role. Not your "best" safety.

And the people that claimed that adding Geno Stone was going to improve the run defense...People just talk out of their as* with nothing but blind optimism that is not backed in reality.

I don't really remember many claiming that Stone would help the run defense, I remember folks being excited in thinking that he'd produce several INTs. Now I do seem to remember optimism for the run defense to improve from Vonn Bell coming back to the team.

Stone was surrounded by all pro players last season like Roquan Smith, Kyle Hamilton,Marcus Williams, and Madubuike. His job was a lot easier then than it is now.

The argument, primarily peddled by "Nate" was that with veteran safeties, the communication would be better and have a positive impact on the run game. I encourage youu to go back to any pre-season thread discussing the run defense.

He wasn't entirely wrong by taking that stance, even coaches were quoted as claiming that the return of Vonn Bell should clear up many of the communication errors that were persistent in 2023.

I'm not sure how he "isn't entirely wrong" when our run defense is currently worse than it was last year. So far, he and the many others that had that opinion are entirely wrong lol. 

If you take coach speech and what players say as gospel, then every unit looks great in training camp, every player has improved over the offseason, etc. etc. Regurgitating coach speak does not make you right, especially when the current situation is blatantly clear. 

Thinking the run defense would get better by losing Reader and adding Geno Stone and Von Bell was a laughable argument and it shows.

I'm saying that he wasn't entirely wrong for taking that stance because Vonn Bell was a known commodity and the expectation was that his return to the team was going to yield solid rewards. Now if you're just wanting to do a "I was right and the other guy was wrong", enjoy your moment. The member you're targeting on this, as well as many other fans of the team had no idea how things were going to turn out, and neither did you. So, congrats on your "win", I guess..  Mellow

Some clarification backstabber....

I also said that we should put Jordan Battle in on running downs and was concerned about Geno Stone's tackling and run stopping but 
yeah, just say I said Geno Stone would help on run Defense and ignore it was Vonn Bell I thought would help...

Only if you've completely forgotten and glossed over the fact that Bates was bad in 2 of his 4 seasons with Lou, okay in 1, and great in 1 and the great one was in 2020 or 3 years prior to when he needed paid. He was magic in the 2021 playoffs, but he was nondescript in the 2022 playoffs.

Yep, I posted the other day threads from where Jesse was #1 in the league in missed tackles. People forget his struggles. He's a good safety, but not worth what he was asking. If he was "Playoff Jesse" all the time, then yeah, but too often he was Bad Andy
