Thought in the offseason the Bengals could survive the loss of Higgins more than Boyd because we still had our #1 in Chase but we don't have anyone who could just be a very reliable middle-of-the-field intermediate depth first down generator. Still can't believe we let Boyd sign for $2.4m elsewhere after neither Yoshi or Jones did much, and I didn't believe that Burton in his rookie year was going to be able to out-produce Boyd.
If you think its bad now, wait until Higgins is gone...

My concern is the #2 and being Tee-less
do we? they were 4th and 6th rounders. And Charlie Jones is already old for a 2nd year guy. You cant just replace a 1k yard 2nd round slot receiver with late round picks and assume they can play like Boyd

Receiving Targets
1) Chase - 48
2) Higgins - 45
3) Iosivas - 24
4) Moss - 23
5) Gesicki - 22
6) All Jr - 18
7) Brown - 17
Burton and Jones have 3 total between the two. That stats reflect no third receiving option has emerged or at least isn't getting targeted as often by Burrow.
In the 2021 season the top 3 targets were:
1) Chase - 128
2) Higgins - 110
3) Boyd - 94

and to think a 6th rounder out of princeton is anything more than a wr 4, thats on you. The bengals front office was probably banking on Charlie Jones being the guy.
in this day and age.... a 3rd rounder is a very serious pick..but I thibk the issues we are having have far more to do than we know about..I still am not certain that Burrow is even close to 100%...yet..regardless..as always..with our Bengals ..only time will tell..Have a bice day..Time for some golf and Pappy

I haven't seen anything cute in a while, so not exactly sure what you are referring to? Do I think maybe we should have thrown the ball the last couple of drives, yes and no. I say yes because I don't have to answer to anyone if the ball gets picked off, the QB gets sacked knocking us out of FG range or just an incomplete pass stopping the clock. Wasn't it just a while ago we all were pissed because we threw the ball too much. Just saying I understand both sides of the coin.

I was super high on Yoshi coming into the year, but he's been a dissapointment. Same with Geiski.
Other than Higgins and Chase, we haven't had anyone step up to take control of that WR3 spot. We are getting no production out of the slot and aren't working the middle of the field at all.
i think it is more that Chase and Higgins are going to dominate your targets and Burrow is more likely to throw up contested balls to them than look at other options, that happen yesterday 2 to 3 times.. Look at the stats of TEs while Higgins was out . First three games Burrow was throwing alot to TEs, now Higgins in in, they are not as much of a target. I agree though I think we need more especially from Geiski... he has not been on the field as much either with our double TE formations

Yoshi just isn't a starting caliber WR. Neither is Jones or Irwin. Burton might be, but they need to play him and let him develop instead of wasting snaps on Yoshi. Guy is only good for one 1st down a game when the defense completely forgets about him because he's sucked all game.
It's further complicated by the lack of a starting caliber TE, the RB's not being that good, and the OL being built towards pass blocking.
Next year, we're basically "WR or bust" in the 1st.

Who cares about WR3? I thought the plan was to run less 3 WR sets, anyhow? Line up in 12 with All and Sample and run it to death.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

zac taylor and the offensive line are not built to do that unfortunately. Doesnt help that Zack moss is bad

He must be really pissing off the coaches or maybe he just doesn't understand the playbook. Either way, it's not good as it's painfully obvious that we need a WR3 desperately, especially when they throw it to Tanner Hudson on a 3 and 4 in the offense's opening series.
Tanner has 2 catches for 18 yards on the season.
The coaching I think is really struggling on the offensive side of the ball. Could be that they're just out of ideas. I think we should've beat the Browns by 20 at least. Don't we have arguably the best QB in the league with two WR1's to throw to?
I'd like to hear Mixon's opinion sometime.

Yoshi on pace for 459 yards with just a 58.3 catch %, 12.5 drop %, and only 1.1 yards after the catch per reception.
We need some better innovation or Chase's back is going to give out from all the weight that's been put on it.

I'm a little less pessimistic. I would like them to expand All's formations and route tree if they want to continue to use him regularly. What they ask him to do he is doing well but he's not being asked much as a receiver. Chase Brown has looked explosive as a runner but hasn't added much to the passing game which I was hoping. Andre Iosivas has not looked good. I hope they at least start giving Jermaine Burton some snaps on the boundary when Chase or Tee are in the slot.

Get Burton out there wide and put Chase in the Slot...

I always liked TB and at that price it seems a no-brainer, but he's not exactly putting up numbers. Is being used more as an outlet/safety blanket thus far in Tenn.
We have several talented options at WR 3, but JB always looks to Chase and Tee first. By the time he comes off of each of them, he's usually out of time to make a good throw to any of the others. It's a product of getting killed for 3 years straight, while in the pocket.
Guys like PM and Brady seem to always have the time to sit back, pat the ball, and wait for a third option to get open. Burrow hasn't had that option. JB makes good reads most of the time and gets rid of it. He has to. Ts, that mindset doesn't allow for many 3rd or 4th option reads.
We have some dudes, Coaching staff just has to do their job by developing them and SCHEMING some of them open. You know, the shit that Andy Reid does year after year, game after game with Jimmy's and Joes.
Running Burton or Yoshi on the 9 and tossing one up to them once a half is not scheming our third options open. It's a crap shoot play with minimal odds.

I’ve been saying this since the offseason, no surprise. Just unproven across the board. Only person on the roster that might change this would be Burton.. but he can’t get on the field.
I floated people out, since summer, Renfrow, Juju, and now maybe seeing what it would take to bring Boyd back (7th next year?), and most recently Terrace Marshall.
All of those guys are more proven, in the nfl, than what we got.
The only thing I have gotten back is “but our WR room is so stacked”, “it’s the best group on our team”, and others.
It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out this would be an issue.

No one on the bengals has 50 catches or 600 yards, in their career. If we were rebuilding, sure. But for an “all-in” team, this is unacceptable.

If I’m in charge of the bengals, I’m calling the titans now to bring back Boyd. He could be airdropped into the gameplan as soon as this Sunday.

There's about 100 guys that they say were 1st Round talent.
Burton wasn't a 1st Round talent WR. He averaged 61 ypg as a senior. 1st Round WR's put up way better stats.
NFL.com had him with a 5th Round grade. His combine numbers were somewhere around 12th at WR.
