Led the ACC his senior year iirc, I like the move. As you and Synric noted....if it does nothing more than keep Williams off the field, it's a home run.

Williams is god-awful.

he isnt a good pass protector. But he is better at it than Chase Brown and Trayveon Williams

In defense of his lack of pass blocking development, Justin Fields wasn't exactly a pocket passer while he was with the Bears. A little tough to develop any consistency when your QB is always flying around the field, like a squirrel.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Exactly, Justin Fields is notorious for his poor pocket presence and awareness coupled with lots of dancing in the backfield and taking off prematurely to run also.

Completely agree. This is good value for Herbert who is a proven RB with skills that got a raw deal in Chicago as you said earlier.
Nice move by the Bengals. Need a pass rusher now and we would be much better off.

a 7th rounder to address an area of need is a small price to pay

True, cannot believe Weezy saying it was close to even too big of a price. A 7th rounder? This is nothing, nada...

Right many times those are practice squad picks if they make the squad at all

Yes, maybe Simmons might be a little mad about it as those are ST's picks at best. Still, Herbert could help on ST's.

Herbert is horrible on 3rd down too, but I like him better than Moss in general.
I'm gonna break every record they've got. I'm tellin' you right now. I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but it's goin' to get done.

I'd be happier if they could have got him for a can of Red Bull, bag of cheese puffs and a used toilet brush though.

I like him. Means nothing if they don’t get some defensive help.

He's a more athletic Zach Moss but he can't stay healthy. Hopefully he can produce for us. Here's his PFF page for career and games played this year:
You literally cannot give up less than a 7th.

He filled in admirably when called upon and he already understands what it takes to be a pro. This is easily a good get for a team that is still suspect at RB.
It's a 7th rounder for a tenured, seasoned pro! Absolutely zero risk and they know what they're getting. This is a potential steal for the football watching impaired.

Not to mention, the Bengals are going to get to take a thorough look at him for half a season for the low, low cost of $550K. And you know how much the Bengals love bargains.

I like it. He’s a low mileage guy who has languished in CHI. Iirc he can return kicks and punts too, in case Charlie Jones is hurt. I just hope they actually play him and not take forever “getting him up to speed”, the sooner Williams is pushed off this roster the better. Didn’t that guy we poached off the Eagles (?) practice squad see a few snaps in the Raiders game?
