They did like Forbes and I was convinced he'd be the pick.

Happy seeing someone put a fork in this silliness of Murphy being "done."

From my observation, Murphy is pretty good at defeating the initial block by the Tackle but moves like molasses afterward. Not sure if he's just physically slow, or has a "what do I do next" sort of moment.

Agree

This is why as has been stated by others he should be getting a ton of snaps from now until end of the season. See what he's got?

My opinion as of now is he's a rotational depth piece at best.

My gut tells me he’s just not good if you’re coming off the edge fresh playing only 20 snaps you should see some explosiveness. It’s one thing for a high pick to not live up to his draft position but I feel like with the Bengals we’ve gotten high picks that can’t even contribute as decent role players. I don’t even notice Murphy he’s not even playing like a good backup and a guy like Zac Carter was putting up zero’s in that stat sheet before he was cut. The bar is so low I’d take anything from Murphy a pressure and two tackles a tipped pass lol.

I posted my observation from a game earlier in the season, on a few plays in the first Ravens game, both Hill and Murphy defeated their blocks and were in open pursuit of Jackson. BJ Hill, a larger and heavier man, appeared to be running in fast forward compared to the slogging Myles Murphy. My point is that as a DE in the NFL, if you don't have any closing speed to speak of, what good are you?

After buying into the offseason news that Murphy had worked on adding muscle and strength to prepare for a bigger role in the defense, I'm less than impressed with the results on the field. We don't know how Cam Sample would have looked this year, due to him missing the entire season with injury, but I am still seeing DE as a major need for the team either in free agency and likely also in the draft.

Once past the Tackle, he has no explosive burst to speak of.

For sure!

Hubbard is way closer to his end than beginning, just too many injuries. Could he be retained as depth? I'd say, but we need a true LDE starter. As we all know we have zero pass rush besides Trey. And I's not sure any of our current depth moves the needle anywhere near enough? Perhaps Sample? But I've all but lost hope on Ossai and Murphy is leaning that way.

You hear guys saying oh get a couple guys and we're good. I beg to differ!!! This team needs a fairly major overhaul including DE.

Murphy is so unnoticeable, I often find myself asking who is #99 out there until I remember it's him. Now that's bad....

lol I'm so desperate I'd literally take any production from these defensive players. Cam Britt-Taylor your a 2nd rd. pick in year 3 and you've given up the most yards of any CB in the NFL can you be the 5th worse CB in the league next year ? If Murphy started next year and was a decent run defender and had 4 sacks I'd go crazy and celebrate.

LoL, same here. These guys have been monumental letdowns this season.

Actually, Ossai is looking like a decent situational pass rusher and seems to have gotten past what was holding him back last season. In just 89 defensive snaps (26%), he has 2 sacks and 9 QB hits, that's a pretty good pass rush win rate. Even so, he's not a 3 down player and should definitely be considered rotational.

Murphy was a terrible pick. He may end up decent someday, but still will be a bad pick.

Too soon to tell. He's still really young, athletic, and has some upside.

I'd give him a shit ton of playing time the rest of the year, fire the DL coach, and see how next year goes for him. If not next year then its prob never.

After watching him in pursuit of QBs this season, maybe not so athletic?

they keep saying Murphy is a more athletic Hubbard, but they never factor in Hubbard's football IQ.

so when they say a player is "sam hubbard esque", and theyre not factoring in Sam's iq, well then that player may as well be worthless.

Which isn't terrible, considering his draft position. The other guy in discussion here? Not even a good rotational piece.
