I figured someone was going to unironically make this thread as some variation has been made the last three weeks, so I just went ahead and got the jump on it.   Ninja

I could see a 9-8 team in the play-offs.  Any team in the play-offs is dangerous.  It is still possible for Bengals to finish with a winning record of 9-8, and it teams in Wild Card lose some games, stranger things have happened.  I'm old enough that I saw the 1970 Bengals start 1-6 on the season and make the play-offs. On the play-offs they lost to the Johnny Unitas Colts who won the Super Bowl.  So if a 1-6 team can get in, why not a 5-8 team that wins out and goes 9-8....The Defense would have to play much better, but who knows, maybe the Defense will play better down the stretch.

Hard to go 9-7 when you are already 5-8.

I changed it to 9-8.  Same point though.  Could a 9-8 team slide back into the Play-Off picture.  Aside from my waking up math errors and extra week to season now, my point still is, IF Bengals win out and go 9-8, could they sneak back into this.   The 1970 Bengals were 1-6 and sneaked into play-offs.

Umm, the 9-7 days are gone and will never come back. Try 10 - 7 or 9 -7 -1 and not this year they are already 5 -8.

Drunk off of the emotion that the defense was somehow able to walk off the field as winners, after giving up 7.3 yds/carry to Dowdle.  Mellow

So many wide open missed throws from Cooper Rush.

Again, I changed my math waking up error....I meant 9-8 and changed it to 9-8.....

If Bengals go 9-8, I've seen teams sneak into the play-offs before.

A few things

1. 9-8 is their best possible finish

2. A ton of things would have to swing our way as far as like 4 or 5 other teams losing a lot of games. Ravens, Broncos, Chargers and even Colts and Dolphins.

3. I highly, highly doubt we win out, with this D

4. And more importantly - this team isn't going anywhere in the playoffs anyways.

Bengals would need to win out

One of the Broncos, Ravens, and Chargers would need to lose out

That about sums it up as the only likely scenario I see.

Ugh, the Colts lost to the Jets in Super Bowl III.

It's possible, but highly unlikely a 9 win team makes the playoffs.

That said, nothing I've seen from this team says win out.

Burrow got hurt against the Cowboys. Our line isn't good. Our defense isn't good.

We basically beat a Cowboys team that is a mirror image of us, but their QB was out.

9-8 was not enough last year, and I don't think it will be this year either. However; that is a moot point because I don't think we will finish 9-8.

I'm of course onboard with a 9-8 Bengals team making the playoffs, but I just don't see it as reality. If they get in, maybe they could channel their inner-NY Giants when Eli and company were an average squad that got hot at the right time and won it all.

I'll play.

Our best bet is to overtake the Broncos. If we can beat them, they only win one more game, and Miami & Indy don't finish better than us: we're in IF we win out at 9-8 with the tie breaker over Denver with our head to head win. Baltimore already has 2 wins over us and the Chargers beat us. Overtaking Denver is the path we need. WTS, you just know everything will go our way and then we'll lose to Poopsburgh and finish 8-9 allowing the Broncos in at 9-8.
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
