Speaking of old Coordinators.
Booger was on Pardon My take Wednesday, talking about any games he knew from the start they were going to destroy their opponent.
He said, only one. 2006 MNF. Benagls at Colts (Palmer/Manning). The colts humiliated the benagals and McFarland said the reason was identified 4 plays into the game.
Bob Bratkoski as OC.
Palmer would yell 'California' at the line to signal any pass play (West Coast Offense) and 'Jersey' if it was a run (Non west coast).
What a coordinator he was.

I remember that game. Peyton looked pissed off before the game even started and I knew we were going to get beat down.
Yeah, Brat was terrible. Never liked Bresnahan in those days either on the defensive side of the ball...

Heyward to take up multiple OL to run a 3-4. We don't have this until a guy like McKinnley Jackson grows into one. I am not against being in
the 3-4 at times if it causes confusion for Offenses but a 5-2 and a 3-4 are way different. You have 3 DT's in the middle usually in a 5-2.
You mean a NT like Reader?

Cam doesn't play nose for the Steelers, Keeanu Benton does. Heyward plays RE and Ogunjobi plays LE. McKinnley Jackson will be a fine NT in an odd front, BJ Hill would make a fine LE, now we just need a monster like Deone Walker to play that RE position.

My bad. Wanted us to draft Benton as well. Yes, we need another stud to play RE in a 3-4. Kris Jenkins could be this guy eventually.
I just don't think we are as close as J24 says to playing a 3-4.

I've mentioned Corey Matthaei (KC) as a member of my "wish list". He's spent his whole career learning from Andy Reid and Andy Heck.
Let him come and bring Trey Smith with him

Jenkins to rotate with Hill and/or Jackson, but you're right we don't have the interior personnel to make a true 3-4 feasible right now. Would take some cuts/signings from free agency and some very good luck in the draft to make that happen.

Rewatching Jackson snaps and he flashed and should have a good future, but he was on the ground a lot. Hopefully coaches work on his balance.
I've always preferred the 3-4 Defense. But nowadays it doesn't really matter the way they mix up fronts.

That is a good one, would love to steal that guy and Trey Smith from them Chiefs...

Yep, gotta make some big moves for it to be possible.

Yes, McKinnley is actually great athlete and it shows on the field if he can just slow down and get his balance right. He has the tools.

Great athlete and has a little of the attitude people pointed out we needed more of on D. It may get him in some trouble (it didn't), but he definitely played through the echo of the whistle and was good for ending the snap with a little nudge or shoulder check on the nearest opposing player.
I like what I saw by the end of the year. A health camp and preseason and he may end up better than Jenkins.

For sure he has a little nastiness to him. Agree, I wanted McKinnley Jackson more than Sweat in that Draft and was ecstatic when we got him.
More than Kris Jenkins even though he could be a good 3-tech. Just think McKinnley has the size, strength, athleticism and mean streak to be our
future Nose Tackle. But he ain't there yet and you have to have a sure thing if you are going to play a 3-4 a lot of the time.

I think that at his floor he'll at least be similar to Domata Peko, and that isn't a bad thing. If he keeps his weight under control and focuses on athleticism, who knows what his ceiling may be.

I thought Heyward has always been a 3-4 DE?
Steelers depth chart has Keeanu Benton as the NT with Heyward and Ogunjobi on opposite sides, then Watt and Highsmith as the 3-4 OLBs.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

What's the potentially better starting DT group if they draft a guy in the 1st round:
3T - Jenkins
1T - Kenneth Grant
3T - Walter Nolen
1T - Jackson/Jenkins
I feel like first option may be better run defense, but second option better pass rush.
Although that may be primarily because I don't like Jenkins as a pass rusher.

Already think McKinnley is a better pass rusher than Domata, but Domata was a great run stopper. Was a little surprised watching McKinnley
getting as many pressures as he did as a rookie. Didn't really think of him as a pass rusher much at all. But you are right, he has high upside
and it shown even as a rookie. We should know much more this season what he has.

Yeah, Sunset already set me straight on Heyward being and End and Benton being the NT for the stealers.

I like Walter Nolen a lot from watching Ole Miss last season. I don't see Kris Jenkins as a 1-tech, but hey, he is the freak, he could gain an
extra 15 pounds for all we know and be one. Nothing against Grant, would be happy with him but I like the one with Nolen at 3-tech better.

The key will be in how he handled himself in his first professional offseason. Some will take a month or so off, then get right back to work with their personal trainer. Others will sit around and get fat. If he shows up to OTAs around 350#, we'll know the answer.

McKinnley Jackson shows some hustle out there for a big guy. There were several times where he is was chasing after the QB or RB and he looked fast for a big guy. I thought he played good especially when you consider missing a lot of training camp due to injury and starting the season on the IR. Hope to see him take another step forward this next season.

Does Burfict have a son? I'd love to have a guy with that sort of intensity back on the team.
