Trey Hendrickson

I don't like the idea of "situational use" players as they tip the hand to the offense, and at a stated market value (per Spotrac) of around $7M. We have an excellent pass rushing end in Hendrickson, the man opposite of him needs to be a complete player that can set the edge in the running game as well as apply consistent pressure when needed.

I found it surprisingly persuasive having gone into adamant that trading Trey would only weaken us.

I suppose it comes down to are we all in on 2025 or do we want to extend the window through 2028?

If Trey is traded though there can be no excuse for not re-signing Ja’Marr and Tee.

At what point do some of our fans stop excusing Hubbard's poor play the last two years and just admit its time to move on. If the Bengals keep him around another season and he sucks again is the excuse going to be he was injured for a 3rd season in a row? At what point do you stop making excuses for the guy and just admit he isnt getting the job done?

Where have you been? For quite some time a good portion of the board has had Hubbard on the "must cut for cap savings list"..

The Hubbard injury excuses are quite literally in this thread.

And??? If he comes back successfully from the surgery that he kept putting off, and plays up to pre-injury level, he'll still be worth every penny of his existing contract. Now, it the rehab doesn't go well and he struggles in OTAs, it might be time to think about doing something different.

OTAs are after the draft and after the free agency period has opened so most of the top talent is gone by that point.  You want to hold on to Hubbard until OTAs?    I wouldnt count on someone who needed surgery to be ready by OTAs so Im not sure what OTAs would tell you anyways.  Lets say Hubbard looks good in OTAs, the Bengals keep him another year and he has another subpar season.  Are we going to hear the injury excuse for the 3rd year in a row for the poor production from Hubbard?  I think its time to move on.

In what world is a healthy Sam Hubbard worth more than Khalil Mack? I would take Khalil Mack on this team at $16m over Darius Slayton (who you like) at $16m.

A lot of teams have situational pass rushers. It’s 3rd and long, guess what, they are passing.. get after the QB.

Mack has been, still is, and will continue to be a better DE than Sam Hubbard.. healthy or not. Please don’t let anyone tell you different.

He was a top 10 graded player at his position this year.

When you have a

MVP candidate
OPOTY candidate
DPOTY candidate

Under contract… your window is now. Extending the window happens when you draft, develop, and retain well. 2025 is, at this point, your best chance of winning a superbowl. It doesn’t get easier in the future.

Yeah, I usually agree with Sunset, but Khalil Mack would be a huge upgrade for us and nothing wrong with him being a situational pass
rusher for us at his age. If anything he would be gamechanger for us on the other side of Trey in pass rushing situations, something that
would put our Defense in a much better situation and opposing QB's in much worse situations.

Let the Linebackers and Secondary stop the screens if that is what the Offense chooses to do in 3rd and longs.

Yep, and I like Sam and am not against bringing him back for cheaper and as a run stopping depth piece. Just need to add a better all
around End for early downs. We can afford it as long as we don't overpay Tee who is not worth a ton with his injury history. If we make a
Tee trade that gets us another player or frees up more money all the better.

We need new Guards and DL talent. We add this and look out.

Agree, the future will have to be Draft picks and hopefully our new Coaches can coach them up.

Right now, pay your best and add around them.

"Trey Hendrickson on the Pat McAfee show today: "I want to help win a super bowl for Cincinnati, whether I'm here or not." When asked about Duke Tobin's recent comments: "It would've been nice to hear it differently than a text from my dad."

How ***** hard is it for this front office to show some damn value towards their best players? Unbelievable how they just cant learn to communicate and get shit done.

May need 2 new DEs…this situation with Trey feels like it is not going to end with him being a Bengal. I wonder if he would play on the last year of his deal or hold out?
I hope they get something worked out but it doesn’t sound like they want to pay him top $ and he wants to get paid either here or somewhere else.
Props to Trey for saying he wants to help Cincy win the SB with or without him. This is how you low-key tell your team “pay me or trade me” while still making it sound like you care for the team/city which keeps the fans from turning against you…

These are the Bengals. They view players as depreciating assets, like the equipment. This attitude goes all the way back to Paul Brown. They won’t extend him; Tee is gone & Chase extension is iffy. The Browns ALWAYS have to go out of their way to show the players(equipment) who’s the boss.

The classless mess that the FO shows to not only their respective players but also the community at large and fans is astonishing.

This equipment may just not lace up and threaten to retire. He's made a lot of money and it's harder to rebuild a full starting DL (without BJ, Henrickson is the only starter to pen in).  Regardless of their opinion of him, it's harder to replace even half his production as the offseason drags on and he sits.

Sure doesn't sound good. I like what Trey said and also don't get why Duke doesn't communicate to Trey directly...

Hearing it from his Dad in a text is a bit strange.

Ironically Zac Taylor our HC is supposed to be a great communicator and that was one of the big reasons we brought him in.

Sounds like a trade scenario to me damn it all as I love Trey, great pass rusher, but if it allows us to get a player or two that help us win a SB
I am happy. Too bad Trey wouldn't be here to win it with us, but in the end us fans needs Super Bowlz.

ESPN has a stat called sacks created. It credits a player with a sack created if they are the first guy to beat their man and a sack results. It includes sacks you create for yourself and others.

Hendrickson led the league by a wide margin this year with 26. Nearly twice that of anyone else.

Going into week 17, he led the league in quick pressure rate (9.2%), was 2nd in QB knockdowns, and was 2nd in pass rush win rate. All this before the 3 5 sack game vs Pitt.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43241328/nfl-all-pro-team-2024-season-barnwell-50-best-players-picks-every-position-pro-bowl

And, all this while being the only real pressure threat on the team and having next to no one create sacks for him.

Plus he generates a lot of holding calls and strip sacks and bats down a fair number of passes.

He was the best pass rushing end in the league this year.

Extend him, FFS.
