Do I wish we had made moves? Yes, obviously, but we're taking care of our big three and it's not over yet, so I'm holding out hope.
There's still some guards in free agency that we could sign- Zeitler is 35 but still good, so could be a short-term fix, Scherff, Jenkins, Becton- and more are bound to be cut at some point.
I wish we would have been active, but it's only the legal tampering period, and I think we just need guards an an upgraded secondary, so I'm not panicking yet, especially with the draft still ahead.
Don't come back in a few weeks, months, or even during the season if you're saying you're jumping ship.

Brad, I am surprised you didn't take this opportunity to lobby for Mayer. But you are spot on.
I can never reconcile in my mind, how a fan can change allegiance. Frankly; I feel terrible that they become so distraught to do so.
Anderson, Esiason, Klingler, Blake, Kitna, Palmer, Dalton and now Burrow and many more will come and go, along with plethora of other role players. The one constant here is the Team.
May not be the best Team in football, but I was a die hard fan when we were the worst, as I am now, and I will be, moving forward.

Oren Burke -> ADG - No tangible upgrade if an upgrade at all
Samaje Perine -> Zach Moss - No tangible upgrade if an upgrade at all
Slayton -> Rankings - This is an improvement, but if you think Slayton is going to have the type of impact on the defense that we need, you'll convince yourself of anything and it's not worth continuing a conversation
9-8…
You failed to mention coaching changes. Won’t know if that will materialize… but it’s significant.

People said I was complaining last off-season when folks had blind optimism that our defense was going to be better and that our offense & run game was going to look different....
People don't like to take a step back and see things for what they are in the grand scheme of the NFL, then for some reason claim I'm "complaining" or "crying" when I haven't complained or cried about anything. Just stating a pretty obvious opinion that hurts some of your feelings.
Keep on drinking the Kool-Aid! Sometimes I wish I could be a blind homer, but then I realize I prefer reality a bit too much.

We won't know if it will help, but it's a significant improvement! Remember when Dan Pritcher was going to change the offense and be under center and fix our run game last offseason?

We've see what will happen. They'll wait for Guards to sign huge deals, then they'll swoop in and add one who's left.
The D needs everything. Better run D, better pass rush, better LBs, better CBs, better S play. It is too much to fix in FA in one year.
Hill and Slaton are both good run defenders. Ossai and his agent both think next year will be big, why else sign for 1 year? He got 5 in his last 7 games. We got a little LB help with Burks.
I think our approach with the D in FA has been correct. The FA DT/Edge class was not great, and guys who are dituational pass rushers are getting $26 mil. The Edge/pass rushing DT part of the draft is strong. Take 1 of each early and our rotations on the DL are set.
My beef is:
1) Not getting Tee/Chase deals done earlier to lower their cap hits.
2) No Burrow restructure to free up cap.
3) No IOL help yet.
4) No Trey extension
But Trey, Tee, & Chase ARE still here, and likely will be. There are some quality Gs left (Jenkins, Becton, Zeitler, Scherff).
My pitchforks & torches are in the garage, but I am not busting them out just yet.

That’s a good size-up.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

I choose not to invest so heavily in the team as to get worked up over this kind of stuff.

Our offense and run game did look different….
FWIW, it comes off as complaining.

2023:
30th rushing attempts
31st rushing ypg
22nd rushing ypc
2024:
30th rushing attempts
30th rushing ypg
20th rushing ypc
That's almost impressive how close they are to being the exact same between two years.

If this scenario or one like it happens with Burrow, there won't be a need for anyone calling for a boycott as it will happen on it's own. And the exodus of fans will be worse than what it was in 2011.
I certainly hope it doesn't for the sake of the fans around the area, and I don't think it will. But it definitely can still go sideways until those big signings happen.

Well all feel better if Chase and Tee sign and there’s a BOATLOAD of year 1 cash flow
Like if Chase extends and ends up getting like 50-60 year 1 and Tee gets a good chunk year 1 making their cap hits better for years 2-4 I’ll accept that as a plan cause then will keep us flexible
If we did all this to sign then to the same damn deals byone would’ve signed then idk why we took so long

I wish the whole Palmer/Burrow stuff would just stop. They are two completely different kinds of people. It's like people just WANT it to happen.

For those telling OP to just go ahead and abandon fandom for the team, I'm assuming the reason they haven't is because just a handful of people doing so will not get the Brown family to notice. The intent would be if enough people do it and affect the profits, it may kick ownership into changing their ways.
With that said, we know how stubborn Mike Brown is, so even if a bunch of people jump ship, it likely won't do anything.
Best thing I can suggest is if the offseason is unsatisfactory, just don't watch games unless/until they start doing well or make the playoffs.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.
Sorry for Party Rocking!

For real. I just don't understand if being a "fan" of this team makes you as miserable as it appears it makes some one here, why watch. There are 31 other teams to support. There are other sports. If it makes you unhappy, then quit watching. Personally, I like it when they win, but this is my hometown team that I have supported since 1968. And this is one of my favorite groups of players from all that time. No way I'm boycotting anything.

If you've been watching since 1968, then you're probably like me and realize any season -- any game really -- can be your last, so your not going to sit one out unless you have to. It can be painful at times -- the three close Super Bowl losses were excruciating when the final second ran off the clock -- but still a terrific diversion and something to look forward to.

I'm only 40 so while I watched football through the 90s I didn't start following team building etc until the Carson Era.
I've seen 1 truth happen 3 times. Directly after paying the QB the Bengals run their roster into the ground. They did it with Carson, Dalton, and now Burrow.

As i said early in the tampering thread, i had zero expectations going into FA and so far i haven't been disappointed. So, no real reason for me to boycott at this point.

Damned straight. That's why I hate all the whining and crap that goes on during the season. We only get 17 games, enjoy them. Or don't, just don't try to make everyone else miserable with you.
