They are at the owners meeting. She spoke last year too.

Quick highlight from Zac’s presser…no free agent guard is expected to be signed at least until after the draft

At least we now know that is the plan, and not just happenstance.

Good for confirmation. Hernandez isn't healthy and Scherff/Risner will wait to sign with a team that whiffs on G in the draft.

But I hate tge way this is trending with all our visits. I don't like conversion projects or tall guards. And all our OL guys wexare connected to are one or both.

Shame we are not pursuing a guard or maybe the guards feel they may gain value after draft

More from Zac
-cohesiveness and communication was a problem last season. They are changing some things internally to deal with that
-tackling must improve
-almost every position will have competition in training camp
-expect everyone to play during preseason
-Dax ACL recovery is progressing but no timeline
-be patient with the Trey situation as they continue to work
-the Germaine Pratt situation is essentially status wuo at the moment

As brief intermission for this mega thread and since Skyline has been brought up you might enjoy this Skyline  "Perfect Coney" training video I found on Youtube.  You will learn things like wiener board, mustard stick, where to store bags of wieners, how often to roll the wieners, people apparently order coneys without wieners, the signature bun canoe and Matt has some great chili action.   You can take a pop quiz at about the 8 minute mark.   Tongue

True.   But I don't like it.  Leaves too much open to chance; and you know how that usually goes.  They needed to secure an above average guard so they would be more flexible on draft day.  At least one.  Last year aside, they make a habit of settling for mediocre talent at the guard spot - now both of them.   The odds are not in their favor.

I'm with ya, I'd like to have seen the situation already resolved. However, it could be that they are truly interested in signing a guy like Scherff, who may not want to sign until later in camp. A lot of those older vets really don't need training camp, they would rather recover fully from the previous season, and then just show up a couple of weeks before the first game to knock the dust off and get winded a time or two.

I may be wrong, but it may mean the team will pick an OL in round 1 to start at guard in 2025. Thus, why they are waiting. My guess is they are extremely confident either Booker and Jackson is available with pick 17. I honestly would be fine if that is the decision, hopefully we get a guard who can be great for at least 5 years (same as Chase contract and 4 years with Burrow and Higgins as well.

It would be one more piece on the offensive side ofthe ball locked in for many years. Mims also has 4 years so they would be building a very good nuclueus for the future while addressing a major need.

Maybe safety is not on our rader for round 1.

The media will be outraged when we take a guard at 17. I can only imagine the ignoring the defense narrative exploding.

There are 2 camps, one feels OG is our worst poistion group by far and our defense can't be fixed by one player anyway. It will be the board that explodes if member's plans are not followed. It happens every year.

Guard Camp - no guard and heads explode
Defense Group - no defensive player taken in round 1 and heads explode.

This is exactly what I read the other day. FA are not fielding interest till later after OTAs

If that's the case, then let them. I think there are only a couple of OG that can help us now. The rest are projects. There are quite a few D players that can help us thru most of the draft.

I'm good if they take the best player among OG and defensive guys available.

Personally, I see the need in both areas as do most of us. As long as they address needs and chop wood, it should be alight. If they come out and draft a QB in RD 1 I would probably lose my shit, but if they stick to needs I will be content.

I realize everything from a box of Zesta crackers to a bag of chips has been downsized since 2021, but as much as I love Skyline cheese coneys, the "vienna sausage" sized hotdogs they now serve ruin them for me. I mean, their hotdogs are now about 2 inches long. The rest is bread, cheese and bun. I'm out until they go back to normal sized hotdogs. I haven't been to a Gold Star lately to see if they reduced their dogs as well.

Seems like the perfect time for another Mom and Pop type of business to rise up and take advantage of their cheapism.
