Ownership and the nepotism-laced FO are what holds this franchise back the most.
Monetary limitations are one thing. Acting like a jack@$$ in the press and i timating your bestcdefender is greedy when he is obviously playing on a deal WAY under market value is just stupid.
Unless you are just so proud of what a stupid b!tch you are and wanted to just let everyone know.
I think that might be a bit harsh. Trey is currently under contract, and they have been trying to give him more money. If Trey and his agent are being outrageous in their demands, who are we to fault the management for calling it out?

Bengals have a roster of 90 guys to deal with soon, he is under contract so he will play in 2024 regardless. To those who say he will dvevelop an injury (fake it) or not play hard, he is 31 and not a good way for a 31 and in 2026 32 year old to get one last big pay day.
I don't want the situation to be a distraction come camp and early season. Drama is not a good thing especially unnecessary drama.

Is that really how you want to treat the two-time reigning sack leader, who's done nothing but produce for your team? Freaking pay the man!

I think he stands a decent chance of getting traded. He's trying to create the belief in a possibility that he's mad enough to sit out. Maybe he is. He's trying to get the Bengals to punt by taking less compensation in return. I imagine he'll crank up the heat all the way up to draft day.

I don't have it handy, but him and his rep put out a statement that stated he wanted to retire as a Bengal. I'm paraphrasing but that's the gist.

Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Call me crazy, but when the NFL sack leader comes out and basically says that he wants to finish his career in Cincy, you do your best to get it done! There was a time when players didn't want to be a Bengal. If KB truly wants to win we all know this deal needs to get done.

I don’t disagree with you here. But I do think the Bengals likely see it as “we’ve got him under contract” and they know they can tag him after next year as well. So they view themselves as having all the power in the situation, and we know that in order to budge, it’d be out of loyalty. And we know that the Bengals don’t usually operate out of loyalty.
They extended Tee in large part due to public pressure by Chase and Burrow (IMO), and I am not sure they’d have done it otherwise. All that to say that I think Trey deserves to be paid, but I believe the Bengals see it as a business situation where they have all the leverage, and they aren’t giving that up easily or at all.
Now what would be VERY interesting is if Burrow used his bully pulpit to do on some media outlets and speak about Trey the way he has in the past about him, and on Tee’s behalf. That might change the dynamic a bit for this round of the negotiations.

They should be gracious to have a star like Trey, who for all accounts is a lunch pail type of guy that just shows up and produces. Getting it right with him, after the megadeals to Chase and Higgins could go a long way toward the franchise shedding that "cheap and frugal" image that they have worn for so long.

maybe Cincinnati does not want to pay a 31 year old DL to finish his career @ Cincinnati..maybe they feel that with a trade and some draft picks they can get a younger cheaper player for a few years to come that can produce..nothing wrong with that..the Bengals are not going to "win or lose" because of Trey

the Bengals have always spent money..sometimes just not wisely..and you are correct about the megadeals with chase and Higgins..and the year before with Joe. Frankly..I dont care what outsiders think..Just maybe they want to trade Trey and get younger ..and save some money..the Bengals are "gracious"..they are paying a man 16 million to play the game of football..Perhaps Trey should honor the contract he signed...But..and the good news..I think all this public posturing just may be negotiating ..and maybe Trey will be resigned to a new contract benefitting both Trey and the team..we will see

I think the Bengals want to get younger and save some money..nothing wrong with that..But I also think that this public back and forth is perhaps a negotiation and just maybe both parties will come away happy

They offered him a raise. It appears he said no. Two sides to every story. The extension should be minimal additional money in 2025, but 100% gauranteed. As for the future, I am not sure great idea to pay a 32 year old 35 million and 100% guaranteed in 2026. It is very risky.
If Trey wants more guaranteed money, he needs to compromise. Bengals could have siad go pound salt, they did not. Ball is in his court.
It is very easy to spend other people's money. Too easy.

It is business on both sides. I see both sides position.

Come on man, we all know regardless if they extend Trey, you and many others will continue to drive the cheap and frugal narrative. Chase's contract in your mind already expired on remocing cheap and frugal in less than a few months?

Actually they paid him more than that as the 15.8 million is just the cap hit and excludes the bonus given to Trey to sign an extension.
