Reds March/April 2025 thread
And Francona has to put Martinez in the bull pen. He just can't do the 3rd and 4th time thru a lineup as a starter.

The Reds can't make several mistakes in a game and expect to win.  They just aren't good enough.  If Martinez doesn't keep the ball down in the strike zone, he gets clobbered.

Crazy that one of the best SPs from 2024 has become the worst starter so far through 2025.
His best role might be a spot starter and reliever, helping to cater to his strengths and mask his weaknesses.

When is Rhett Lowder coming back?
Saw he's throwing bullpen sessions now.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Ashcraft got hosed by the HP ump. That was strike 3 and should only have been a 1 run inning.

Holy moly.

11-7 Mariners, bottom 10th, 2 outs.

Bullpen collapse?
Haven't been able to watch during the workday, just track the gamecast.

What a brutal L to take after getting a 7-5 lead heading into the 9th.

Being a sports fan in this area is absolutely annoying as hell with all the bullshit these teams do.

Fall back into 4th place and a 9-10 record after they lose 11-7 while giving up 6 unearned runs due to 4 errors.

Starting from the 5th inning . . . both teams combined to use 16 pitchers in this game.

Hays went 1 for 5 but shows why he's so important to this lineup with a 1st inning 2 run shot to right. He put the ball in play- no strikeouts.

Lux goes 2 for 4 to raise his average to .290.

Friedl goes 2 for 4 to raise his average to .268. Had the only RBI that was not from a HR.

De La Cruz goes 2 for 4 to raise his average to .243.

Fraley's 5 hits over the last couple of games has him sitting at .234. Clutch 8th inning grand slam goes to waste.

Dunn was 0 for 3 but still scored twice due to drawing a couple of walks.

Candelario . . . 0 for 4 with 3 of the Reds 7 strikeouts. Ouch.

Diaz actually completes an inning but still looks shaky. It was a good run, but 2024 Pagan finally showed up.

Ashcraft got screwed in the 10th.It was 8-7 with 2 out and he had 2 strikes on Arozarena. Next pitch was on the outside upper corner shown as a strike but was called a ball. Should have been out of the inning but next pitch was a 2 run hit. And next guy had a run scoring hit.

Still blew a 2-run lead in the 9th though before that, right?

Yeah Pagan gave up back to back homers.

This team is not good enough to give up unearned runs and win.
Pitching was 3rd in MLB coming into this game
Batting was 27th, .210, coming into this game.

I count this as another blown game, that makes at least 4 or 5 games, they should have won this year.

This will cost them at the end of the year.

This is a peak example of how some folks get a little too obsessed over the advanced advanced stats.

2024
EDLC Basic Stats: 29 Errors at SS, that is BAD.
EDLC Advanced Stats: -2 Defensive Runs Saved at SS, that is BAD.
EDLC Advanced Advanced Stats: 15 Outs Above Average at SS, that is AMAZING!

A serious and decent sized contingent of baseball folks out there: "EDLC is actually an amazing SS, you just need to stop looking at both the traditional and the old advanced stats."

2025: 6 errors in 19 games

Reminding me a whole lot of back when people were excited over extending Homer Bailey instead of Johnny Cueto (or hell, even Mike Leake), confident it was a better move because of the advanced advanced stats at the time.

2 games out of 1st Place after April 17th.  Going into tough Baltimore Orioles, always tough in there with Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays and Rays.  The AL East often pounds the Reds.  So don't be surprised if Baltimore looks good against our Reds.

Some trivia. who sang National Anthem in Cincinnati in Game One of 1970 World Series Baltimore vs Cincinnati.....Answer, The Jackson Five. ...and what Reds Great played in Cincinnati that game ?   Frank Robinson.  Stating Pitchers were Jim Palmer and Gary Nolan.  Now why Woody Woodward started that game over Dave Conception, I do not know. Dave had been the shortstop most of the year.  Ironic that Bernie Carbo called out at home, in 1975 hit the big game 6 homer against Reds.

GO REDS.

One of the best posts I've read on this forum, ever. Elly needs to be in LF or RF (RF with the cannon of an arm).

So a person that posts about fantasy stats about 75% of the time, makes a post about some people being too obsessed with stats and that is one of the best posts that you've read in this forum.

Awesome.

And I have never heard anyone other than Nicoma say that Elly is an amazing SS. Outside of Reds coaches or officials, I'm not sure where to look for or find this "serious and decent sized contingent" that claims any of this.
