It was OK but definitely not great. They did need defense but I would have liked to have seen them add a safety.
They are too conservative with picks - wish they would get agressive and move up for players they really want but that ain’t how they roll.

I never hear the analysts praising the draft choices for the Bengals, seems to me they are caught off guard by who we choose.

We had problems watching receivers and TE’s all season. Without any improvement in the secondary or major push up front to pressure the QB, I don’t see how things will end any differently. Maybe the 2 new linebackers will help covering the TE’s, but that’s asking for a lot.

Something to consider is lately the difference between analysts draft boards and the draft boards of the teams has gotten larger. You saw it this year in that the analyst boards had offensive linemen ranked too low almost universally by at least a round. A lot of teams (not just us) went OL higher than analyst boards would say. LB also showed up more than the analysts forecasted. Makes one wonder why the difference?
To our draft. I still don't like our first round pick - that type of player profile busts at a very high rate. So... 1) Shemar Stewart - Don't like this pick for the reason I stated above. First rounders need to be safer bets. 2) Demetrius Knight - I've warmed to this pick as unlike Stewart he has real production, turns out he can play three downs and while older it's not as bad as originally thought. I'm cool. 3) Dylan Fairchild - Outright good pick. Starter level needs a bit of polish and addresses a hole. 4) Barrett Carter - Another good pick as this is another starter quality who need some work on technique. All three defensive picks are FAST . 5) Jalen Rivers - Cool pick. Not a starter yet but has that upside. Between him and Fairchild this is the first draft I can remember we paid legitimate attention to the Guard room. 6) Tahj Brooks - I had him mocked to us to be honest (I also had Fairchild and Knight mocked to us) . Brooks is a big powerful downhill back with that extra pop in his step so he can get chunk gains if he gets loose. Perfect complement to Brown. I can't call this a super draft because of Stewart but I am willing to give it a B / B- right now. ![]()

Well done to dispel BS George... We won't know how this draft was for quite a bit, but I think we have a starter in Shemar Stewart on early downs, great at setting the edge, a starter at LB in Knight, a starter at Guard in Fairchild and a stud RB for the future in Tahj Brooks. Pretty damn good.

Grades are thrown out based on the pundits draft boards, as you said lots of margin for major error with 1st round picks, the supposed easiest round to judge. Bengals drafted one guy had mocked to us in round 6 and I did a lot of mocks. Every fan should play with mocks, it is not easy and I learned you need to think ahead to you rnext pick which inn our case was minimum 32 places. It may appear team reaches when reality like Knight, he is. not there with our pick #81 in round 3, decision is him or someone else. Bengals obviously got their top person on their board in round 1, it was not mine, but I see a floor of he is a better version of Hubgard byyear 2. He is a run stopper already and a lot more athletic than Sam so I think he becomes very disruptive. As I say every year, let's revisit in 3 years and then after the fact, we can see if Bengals had a poor, average or great draft. ![]() Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

Here’s hoping the udfa signings will be better than this draft ended up being.
So many teams did what I hoped we’d do with revamping their defense in this draft. So it was possible. I think no matter what our safeties are too bad to allow for any improvement on that side of the ball. Remember they couldn’t stop bombs away Bo Nix. At all. With the season on the line. The qbs we play this season are better than Nix. Bengals played defense once again seeing targets go a pick before theirs. Disheartening. Especially with what the rest of the division was able to do. ![]() Quote:"Success doesn’t mean every single move they make is good" ~ Anonymous

One thing Shemar knows is to set an edge against the run. He needs to keep his head up and just slow down a bit as a pass rusher and he could be great. I was down on the pick initially, but I was really harsh, Shemar Stewart is one heck of a talent and the only thing holding him back can be coached up. He has everything, size, strength speed, quicks, hands, lightning quick first step and he will instantly be our best run stopping End IMO.

His straight-line strength is unreal. He's capable of moving 300+ linemen like their kickers. ![]() He needs to be translate that speed and power laterally too though...something he was inconsistent with. You see him blow by guys a lot off the snap, but then get taken away from the play or miss the play altogether when pursuing. Recognition and finishing are the 2 biggest areas he needs to work on IMO. The speed and power are great tools, but only if they can be controlled. Right now, he's sort of like a bull in the China shop...just breaking shit and causing chaos. If the staff can refine that and get him to be a little more focused and patient, I think he could wind up being a pretty damn good one.

I had to check some video on Carter and Rivers, as I had never seen them before and they are pretty good players. Love the Brooks pick.
