People want to ignore ho wpoor he is against the run when camparing him to the best like Watt. But, to get pai as much, he needs to be much better againts the run. No way he should expect Watt money or Garrett based on his results in my opinion. My hunch is Trey and a lot of our fans are over valuing his overall game.
The total grade has more components than just run/pass grades.

Bungles have to fix this. Period. They had opportunities to bolster the defensive line if they were going to continue to play hardball.
They did nothing. Now they have to make him happy.

So...with the amount of cap space they have, how could they have signed a free agent DE and extended Trey?
Feels like they dont even have the space to give Trey what he wants.

They've intentionally chosen all throughout the offseason to have less cap space. We're 20th in combined AAV and the obvious inevitability of Pratt being replaced by one of the two rookie LBs puts us around 23rd. There's 7 teams with at least $50m more in AAV on their team. The Eagles right now are $114m above us.
The majority of the league has more players making more money on their team and kept under the cap, so any inability right now is entirely self-inflicted or self-imposed. We have the 8th most cap space in football in 2026.

That means their psyop is working
We had plenty cap space this offseason to extend Tee, Trey AND Chase. They have chosen to act like they are broke. Could’ve cut Stone and Pratt and freed up almost another 10M too.
They need to have a ballsack and just admit that they don’t feel like Trey is gonna play this well in the future.
I mean what’s the harm in honestly telling Trey “We don’t want you signed for the next 4 years because we do not believe you will be worth this number in years 2-4 of the new deal.”
Idk why we can’t just be real. From interviews with Andrew Whitworth is seems like Mike Brown is honest. When asked he told Whit they were moving on.
Seems like Katie does the more female approach of just trying to finesse players until they walk.
Just tell him you aren’t gonna sign him long term.

I think the writing is on the wall for Trey after the Stewart pick yet another reason I didn't like it. I think the Bengals plan is literally how it worked out with Whitworth. I'd bet they offered him either a raise this year or a raise and 1 more year. He clearly doesn't want that and the Bengals dont want to take just the best trade offer they can get and are gonna try and play hard ball. I don't know why we think it's okay to treat players this way especially the some of the top players on the team. We should've just extended Trey and gone a different direction in rd 1. Or if we refuse to meet him on years than we should do him the service of trading him to a team that will. If he holds out in camp maybe they trade him for a player and a later pick.

He wants a high-dollar multi-year deal, which at his age is not a smart move for the team. I agree he deserves a raise, but he is still under a contract HE signed. To me, he is coming off as a child whining to the press every day about the situation and saying he won't play under the deal he signed. I don't blame him for asking, but if he's not happy, he needs to play out his contract like a man who honors his word, then sign somewhere else. Only, he knows that won't happen because he will be yet another year older. If he wants the big deal, he should have a great season and show the rest of the league he was worth the Bengals' asking price. If he thinks he is going to win a head-butting contest with Mike Brown, he's in for an education. He'll sit him for the season out of spite. As it is, if the Bengals gave him everything he asked for, there's nothing to keep him from coming back next year wanting more again. I mean, this is several years in a row now. This is his fault for having a lousy agent and his fault for signing a deal he doesn't want to keep. I'm to the point I don't really care if he plays or not, just stop whining.

So was Zack Moss, Geno Stone, and Joe Mixon when the Bengals demanded they take a paycut over the last two offseasons.
So was Sheldon Rankins, Alex Cappa, Nick Scott, Trey Hopkins, Trae Waynes, Geno Atkins, Bobby Hart, Giovani Bernard, Cordy Glenn, John Miller, BW Webb, Dre Kirkpatrick, Andy Dalton, Vontaze Burfict, and probably Germaine Pratt when they got cut by the Bengals in the Taylor while under contract. Not to mention the countless many less noteworthy players.
The Bengals also signed those contracts. The whole "honoring your word and play out the whole contract" thing is a relic of a bygone era of Bengals football. No longer do vastly underperforming players get to hang around for an extra year or two because they're under contract. That's a good thing when it comes to winning games, but also because of it you no longer have the moral highground to put your soapbox on about players who vastly outplay their contract wanting more.

Everyone you mentioned got the money they were guaranteed or agreed not to, to keep a paycheck.
There's a difference between employee and employer. They did Trey a solid by letting him seek a trade. I hope the Bengals give Trey a pay raise, but they are not stupid for not doing so.

At some point, Clowney or Za'Darius Smith need to be approached. They can earmark money this year for an extension, but if things are truly this bad that he's going to go to the press often (rather than his agent) they need to insure themselves.
Sure, we can get to week 1 and hope he signs and is up to full playing condition by week 3 but how broken are things? Why not pursue Clowney or Smith with that money? Either Trey gets the hint that they're more ready for him to sit, or you get some DL help and Trey for like 10 good regular season games when he does get off the tantrum. Talking to these players seems like a win/win to me.

I'm with you, Sled.
As I said earlier, You sign it! You honor it! Or don't sign the darn thing. It's not like any of these guys that are making 10's of millions don't have enough to live a comfortable life after football.
I think there should be a base salary for each position and then all the rest is incentives based off your performance. You play like a star one year, you get paid like a star. You play terrible the next year, your pay reflects it. These salaries are beyond stupid for playing a game.

Loaded subject for sure.
What the lousy non-contender Browns did for Garret who is close in age (1 year younger); sort of gives Trey a leg to stand on when you’re talking about a team that IS a contender (arguably in part to what Trey does for this team on D). He also operates with little to no help too (unlike Garrett).
“2025-2030 Extension. Myles Garrett signed a 4 year, $160,000,000 contract with the Cleveland Browns, including $21,541,125 signing bonus, $123,596,125 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $40,000,000.”
I get all the arguments though.
Tough one.

I believe the Bengals are going to cut Pratt on June 1st or shortly there after. Hopefully the front office gets something done with Trey shortly after that. Yes Trey is whining, yes he is under contract but he's also disgruntled. So how would you handle it? I would tear up Trey's current deal and offer him a two year deal worth 64 million with sizable guaranteed money. If Trey wants a contract any longer make it almost completely incentive laden for a 3rd or 4th year. If Hendrickson truly believes in his abilities he should be fine with a contract structured like that. Trey gets the "security" he wants for his family in the first two years of the deal and if his production falls off a cliff and and he doesn't produce in years 3 and 4, the Bengals are out very little.

I would give him a 2 year deal at $32 million a year or a 4 year deal @ $30 million a year with decent cap out for us.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

I think we need more whiners. If this front office doesn't change they're ways we will waste the chance for a championship with Burrow.
