Notes from Off-Season Practice
(Yesterday, 08:25 AM)pally Wrote: So now for the next 6 weeks we will hear nothing but crickets other than the endless speculation on Hendrickson, Stewart, and the stadium

I'm definitely a person who has his own perspective on life in the sense that the NFL and Bengals don't consume my existence. That note out of the way, it sure would be a hell of a lot more fun to be a fan of this team if the focus was on positive info rather than Trey & Shemar. The Brown family just makes it so freaking difficult time and time again.

Oh well.  Who Dey

Yeah. I'm never in a hurry for the season to start. I want as much time as possible to chill out in my back yard/deck/pergola/pool resort.

Same here, summer hasn't even officially started yet and it goes really fast where I live. Going to enjoy the green grass and the pool. Cool

Hopefully I can be able to play some golf this summer.

I will be itchy for football come August though.

If the Bengals did indeed make another offer after Pratt was cut, I would hope the Trey camp would see that as a very good thing and maybe soften their stance on sitting out as a viable option for Trey.

If he sits out, neither side wins. We can argue all day and place blame, but if he is not on the field week 1, both sides failed and lost.

Forgive me, but I missed the part about a supposed new offer to Trey, what was the source on that?

If so, that would be VERY encouraging.

I think that it's pretty clear from his language that he was speculating, just like all of the talking heads in sports media right now.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Someone posted one of the Trey threads Bengals made Trey another offer on day Pratt was released. He then when asked supplied the source. That is why I said "if"

Well I'll say this. I was very happy to see Burton having fun and mingling with his teammates at the Logan Wilson game. Last year with his attitude and being a rookie (I'll leave it at that) I don't think he felt comfortable around the team and failed to thrive. He seemed to be genuinely having fun and mingling with his teammates, which I think is a big thing for him.

Good news. Hope he has turned to corner and is all about the team. If so, he is as talented as about any WR we have besides Ja'Marr.

Tee is talented, but he doesn't have the speed/hands Burton has that cannot be taught. Tee has the size that cannot be taught.

So far so good on offense. Fairchild is already showing at Guard and I expect at this point Patrick will be the other G. I want to see more of Rivers too. Tahj is also looking good. It seems they do envision him and Brown as a thunder and lightning combo. Add in the return of Perine and you can tell Pitcher wanted some power backs in the room to complement Chase Brown. And if Burton really has his head correctly attached now it gives them a home run threat on every throw (like Chase is).

Defense even with the Trey and Stewart frictions is also looking better. Knight is showing already at LB and overall the back 7 look more organized and everything is moving faster - I suspect this is all part of Taylor running everything at a faster pace that resembles real live play more.

You do have a choice, you can focus on 2 negatives or focus on positives like Burrow, Chase, Tee, Yoshi, Brown, OL and Gesicki are at camp and knock on wood healthy. Burrow has not been healthy at camp maybe ever as his rookie year it was Covid camp. Lat year Chase and Tee were not at camp. Mims now goes to year 2 after proving in 2024 the NFL is not too big for hm

Wilson is healthy and sounds like 2nd round pick Knight was impressive in camp.

I see a lot more postives than negatives, but I choose to be an optimist who is a realist. The realistic part is me knowing I can whine and complain about the FO, I can whine we should have did the Tee and Chase contracts differently so they could spend the money immediately on FA's , lots to whine about, but realistically I can't ver control any of it so a huge waste of time and energy.

If Burton contribues anything as our 4th or th best WR, our offense can quickly jump to a higher level. All NFL players have elite talent, but the mind needs to match the athleticism. The drive to be great has to be elite and ability to get rid of distractions keys how good the elite athete will become.

Chase is not just an elite athlete, he is an elite himan being driven to be the best, not good, the best and why he is an absolute stud. He got paid and it was good to see him at camp working hard, we have seen too many get the pay day and no longer were motivated for greatness,

I forgot about Perrine. I will never foget him playing toss with us in the endzone prior to the start of the Super Bowl. I think we forget our RB room is young. Moss is not that experienced, hen Brown and a rookie who I have a hunch Perrine can teach how to become better pro players and how to prepare for a long NFL season.

Oh yeah, I am excited for the Offense this year. Joe just had his best season and he had wrist surgery before last season and is saying he is
finally getting 100%. Fairchild I think will be better than Volson right off the bat, he knows how to stay low and he is violent with his hands.

I also really like Rivers if he is needed, he has long arms and can play LT or LG. Tahj Brooks just fits like a glove if we are running inside zone
run blocking and he is a great short yardage back with burst and good vision. Bringing back Samaje really added another physical presence to
our room I think was sorely needed, Tahj is physical too which is awesome.

We all want Trey and Shemar practicing but this might be a good thing getting Murphy and Ossai so many starting snaps. Love the Knight
addition and we will be blitzing a lot more under Golden, so it won't all be the front 4 rushing all the time.

Agree, not a better Receiver to learn from then Ja'Marr Chase, nobody works harder than this man. He really grew as a route runner last
year and this year looks like as a leader.

Our top 3 RBs (normally only 3 active on gameday and we've only carried 3 the last two years) are collectively the oldest in the division...
Heading into their age 25, 28, and 30 seasons. (Avg: 27.7)
Ravens: 31, 28, 23 (Avg: 27.3)
Steelers: 27, 22, 26 (Avg: 25)
Browns: 26, 22, 21 (Avg: 23)

Moss is heading into his 6th NFL season.

Wow, Tahj Brooks and Chase Brown are really old for being a rookie and a 3rd year player. Mellow
