Actually, it's been published many times that the Bengals were asking for a 1st round pick for Hendrickson. Just enter the phrase "Bengals asking for 1st round pick for Hendrickson" into your search bar and see how many listings pop up.

Our front office turned down a second round pick for AJ McCarron and a million picks for Akili Smith. I'm sure there are more examples, but they can always ask for the moon because there are no repercussions for failing to secure a good deal in a trade.

It's like when you look on eBay for a record or something and no matter what you are looking for there is always a listing with a buy it now price 10 times the reasonable value that never gets sold. We just aren't serious dealers.

Edit - Like I said back during the McCarton deal  non deal let's pretend Trey is a 1988 Ford pinto. I work at a car dealership. A guy comes in and says "I'll give you $35k in cash for that pinto right now" and I think "wow this guy is a moron...." but I push my luck by saying "actually it's $50k for that 1988 Pinto" and the guy says "no deal" and puts his sack with a dollar sign over his shoulder and walks off.

My boss isn't going to congratulate me for going for broke and driving a tough deal, he's going to fire me for turning down a $35k offer for a Ford pinto.

Now let's say I have a 1988 Ford pinto at my home that I don't want to part with because I have sentimental attachment to it because I lost my virginity in the backseat. I don't really want to sell it, but I should at least convince  myself that I'm trying to, so I put a for sale sign on it and when people come by and ask if it's for sale I turn down anything under $50k because I don't actually want to sell it. What happens when I don't? Nothing, I am beholden to no one in this situation. I push my crapwagon back into the garage and say "Hey. I tired."

actually..and you can find other so called insiders suggesting the Bengals were asking for a 2nd round  next year  and third round  the year after that..You can find sportswriters that supposedly have inside information suggesting that Sanders will be the starting quarterback for cleveland..people are all over the Board claiming to have knowledge of issues and its nothing more than personal and subjective feelings..have a great day

i see two big issues with resigning Tre, once we signed Higgins, that limited how much we could offer him, and him wanting a 3/4 year contract at his age, they might be still stinging from signing Geno, just to reflect back , Geno was 30 coming off another stellar season, signed him to a 4 year contract , we got 2 years out of him and he was done.

Exactly. Trey is desperate for a longer-term deal because he knows his time is soon over. You can't beat Father Time.

Unless you are Tom Brady or LeBron James.

But in all seriousness, there have not been that many DE’s effective in their age 33-34 seasons. Not at the contract Trey wants now anyway.

The issue with limited resources is completely the Bengals making. They could've easily structured things to have the room to easily sign him. I also think so many contracts the final year doesnt even count as players are just released if they aren't living up to the contract value that it seems the "years" part of the contract should almost be a non issue.

I still think the contract gets done. But no matter where you stand on Trey wanting to pay him or not I am curious if people will be upset if we dont sign him or any other players after freeing up more cap space. I see no reason at all we shouldn't be spending the available cap space we still have this year.

The number resource needed is cash, not cap space as you keep aluding. Check out the amount of cash they put out in 2025 and not done yet as have Stewart and Knight. Who nows maybe they are saving some for a possible trade or in case a very good vet gets cut after camp.

But we do know for a fact, Bengals shelled out a ton of cash in 2025 which you downplay constantly.

FYI, Denver signed Barron leaving only Stewart as #1 not signed. He got almost a 10 million signing bonus (cash) so that is the floor for additional cash needed to sign our 1st round pick. Barron was pick #20 and Stewart #17.

I prefer the ones who interview NFL execs and player personnel, who speak from their direct conversations with the Bengals management rather than the ones who make up daily imaginary trade scenarios, likely because no one will give them any actual news to report on.

Truth. I actually thought it was a good move to shoot for the moon in case some other team would want to give up something extraordinary
but that was only if we were going to extend him. If we don't get him extended and he sits out it hurts him and the team though and looking
back they should of been more realistic in their trade demands.

I'm thinking that the team should be more realistic about his contract extension demands. I want to see these guys in contention for the Lombardi, and Trey is a major piece of that puzzle.

The Cap is an accounting tool so when you unnecessarily inflate that in year 1 you limit the amount of cash you can spend. The Bengals did spend alot but they could've left themselves alot more room to spend more money and sign more talent. That is undeniable. Also yes they need the cash to pay Stewart but his cap hit will be smaller and leave plenty of space to spend more money.

Yeah they need to get on it. Im not so concerned about Trey missing the early portion of camp but allowing this to drag on to the beginning of the season will really hurt our outlook on the season. Stewart is another problem altogether him missing time in camp greatly increases his chances of a lost rookie season.

For sure, we don't know the details though. If Trey is wanting Garrett/Crosby money that really isn't realistic either considering his age
and the fact these guys are better run stoppers. Trey's agent is also a dumbass from everything he has been doing in the past. Still stand
by Trey should of got a new agent like Tee did IMO.

Hopefully this gets resolved soon and Trey is ready to go and happy with his extension.

Agree, this needs to get taken care of with Stewart for sure so he can get some time in with the team before the season.

Trey will be fine I am sure as long as he has been working out, he is a true hard working vet, he will be ready to go.

Don't even get me started with my feelings about Stewart, or the team's first round selection. This kid not only didn't put up numbers in college, but he thinks that the NFL owes him a large bag of millions with no strings attached on his part. How does that work? I mean, the NFL is a job you need to merit a roster spot and earn your keep. If you are talented and produce, the millions will come. And on the Bengals end, this is the guy most single named by our own message board JN regulars as the name that they did not want to see drafted. The team needs to quit thinking of draft picks as ways to cheapen the roster, and put a football mind in charge to select players that will actually start and flourish in their rookie season.

Your argument falls apart when you factor in we have 32 million in cap space which includes Trey's 2025 cap hit.

Sorry, you are wrong as we have all the cap space we need to give Trey an extra 13 to 15 million (depending on structure more) if we extend Trey in 2025. You do know he is under contract now.

Have you ever sold anything in your life?

If so you were motivated by 2 things:

You no longer wanted/needed it

You wanted to get as much as possible for it.

I wonder how many here would applaud the Bengals if they traded him for a conditional pick and gave a reasoning of "It's all he was worth to us"

My argument doesnt fall apart. 32 million in cap space is the very reason people are upset. That number could've been pushing 50 million if the Bengals just did the average with theyre contract structure. We could've signed Trey and a couple more starters.

I definitely didn't want Stewart. I was watching Goodberry and they apparently got insight on the Bengals draft board and were actively rooting for any of the players ahead to fall to them. So I was very disappointed in the 1st rd and definitely agree the Bengals need to adjust how they draft. But the damage is done and we need to get this guy signed. I think blame goes both ways and certainly didnt like his comments but all signs point to just a little give on the Bengals part and he will sign the contract with the default language. So just get it done.
