Reds August 2025 Thread

Greene supposed to be back after one more rehab start. If there's any chance for them to make a run that would help, A LOT.

Jake Heilman. That's the guy that decides if they challenge or not. The staff is part of the team. Just 'figgered' that he deserved some props after that 7th inning call.

Welcome to The Reds Littell.  The bullpen pitched from the 2nd inning on Sunday and Monday.  Reds need Littell to Eat Innings tonight and go deep into the game.  With Tampa Rays he hardly ever gets clobbered, and seems to know how to pitch even when he doesn't have his best stuff. That is what Reds need tonight, a pitcher like Littell who if he is On or Off, is a smart enough pitcher to still go deep in the game.

Again, it's huge that Reds starter pitches deep into game tonight, after what the bullpen had to do Sunday and Monday.  Francona is a good manager and knows the bullpen needs a break tonight, if possible. You don't want to burn out your bullpen with 2 months left to play.

Wasn't aware that Shota Imanaga was the greatest pitcher on the planet.

Two of the three trades producing well today. Some good, solid, veteran sequences from Littel and Andujar DROVE that ball to right center.

9th hitter Shaw then ties it.

Let's see who they rebound.

-edit Let's see HOW they rebound.

He's gotta go down on that "what if" list, presumably big time for some Yankees fans.

A monster rookie season, 2nd place in RoY to Ohtani with 47 doubles and 27 homers (numbers he hasn't matched even with all the years after combined)... and then it was just never really the same after the shoulder injury/surgery ala Brandon Finnegan.

For as good as they've gotten at repairing knees and elbows, shoulders still ruin careers (heck, it's what ended Votto's career so uncerimoneously, went from a .260 hitter in his late age to a .200 hitter).

Can't just watch strike 3 down the middle, Elly.

So looking up the trades during a commercial, this popped up about the Singer/India trade. Until about a month ago, I did not know that Singer was signed through next year. I thought that they were both in their FA seasons. This trade is becoming a blowout. India had nowhere to play on this roster and not mentioned in the article is that Lux is hitting .271. A different trade, but he was India's replacement.

AWESOME take by Andujar for strike one because it was on his hands and would have been a DP . . . then lines the next pitch through the hole for a single.

Great at bat.

Then Steer crushes one!!!

Neither. India is still under team control in arb next year.

But yeah, it has been a good trade. A reliable league average starting pitcher to be your #4 or #5 is certainly always a nice add.

Lux is hitting .271 but he's also a LF/DH on pace to hit 6-ish HR in a full year despite being in GABP. Interesting to note that Lux and India are both currently -0.1 bWAR players. I also don't think I would agree with considering him India's replacement, because I don't think India was ever going to be our DH or (terrible) LF which are Lux's two primary positions. It makes Lux look like way better of an add than he has been despite him being quite bad.

Hell yeah Steer!

Also when's the last time we had two ground-rule doubles in the same game?

Noted. Singer pitches against Skenes on Monday. Looking forward to that. Abbott goes against a pretty solid rookie tomorrow.

For some reason, I keep thinking that Lux was 2B when McLain was injured, which is where India would have been had he still been on the roster. He played 2B in one full series in SF and only single games since then.

Padres @ Diamondbacks 2-2 bottom of the third.

Poor Cubs. About to be knocked out of the 2nd best record in baseball and still 4 games behind Milwaukee who won AGAIN.

Fair warning to all . . . the next two Friday games are on AppleTV+.
Burns vs Keller in Pittsburgh and Martinez vs Henderson when Milwaukee comes to Cincinnati.

7 innings by Littel when the bullpen was gassed is huge and a great way to introduce yourself to your teammates. Only two walks and one of those was an old fashioned pitch around. Andujar scores twice and Hayes makes an impact on his first play on defense. Looks like the trades made them better for today. 48 more games left for them to make their own individual impact.

Two of the Cubs trades have hurt them in this series with Soroka now possibly injured and Kittridge takes the loss with 4 earned over 1/3 of an inning.

The Mets lost their third in a row and are only a half of a game ahead of the Padres, who just fell behind 3-2 in the 4th on a passed ball.

Welch with a telling line "When Tito Francona has a chance to get a win, he's not going to give it up, we know that much."

David Bell's managing style made that comment necessary.
