Owner to head coach on down try their best to put the best backups on the roster at every other position. There's no reason not to do it with QB as well.
RG3 is the backup in Baltimore (veteran). Landry Jones is the backup in Pittsburgh (veteran).
Matt Barkley is the backup in Cincinnati (veteran).
The drafting of Jackson/Rudolph had nothing to do with "if Flacco/Roethlisberger get injured."
And frankly, if any starting QB gets injured for more than a game or two, that team is more often than not screwed. Currently, the Bengals want to see if Driskel can be their next McCarron. If not, they've got Barkley.

Tell that to the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles mate.
You can attempt to defend and justify NOT looking at a QB all you want but the fact remains if Dalton does not improve his game over the last two season we will need to address the position. I just assumed that with deep draft class this season we could have addressed the issue as did every other team in our Division. That is a reasonable and in my opinion prudent approach.
You make it seem as if it is simple and not worthy of consideration. You said yourself that if the bengals go 6-10 this season that all bets are off....well in my opinion it isn't out of the imagination for them to do just that.

They werent drafting a QB to succeed Dalton this year. They were drafting a guy to develop into Andy's backup.
Andy isnt going any where for a while. Just deal with it.

Yeah, right, because all of those teams had their season saved by ROOKIE back up quarterbacks.
Um, er, wait, nevermind.

Because that's what it comes down to.
Is that what you are all saying?
That is what I am saying.
Whose contract is up first Dennard or Dalton?

I thought the Ravens made a brilliant move in drafting Lamar Jackson....have him learn behind Flacco for a few year and see where things end up 3 years from now. Do they really want to give Flacco 25 million a year with the way he's playing? The same question can be posed for Andy......
Flacco is owed $44.5 million over next TWO seasons.
Dalton is owed $47.8 million over the next THREE seasons and has been a much better QB than Flacco for a few years now.
The Bengals are in a totally different QB situation than the Ravens.

The problem is everyone is looking for that Brady-esque QB to lead the team to the Superbowl when in fact, it has to be done through the Defense, the bears did back in the 80s, the Ravens too and many other teams, the only times the offenses have been a factor is when there have been weak defenses or better coaching, since its much easier to play Defense than Offense. That being said, it is more fun seeing a QB throw passes and score a TD, but the closest we will win a SB is by having a good defense than a great offense. To make a point, our defense couldn't stop the 49ers in 2 super bowls.

Tell that to their offensive genius coach, who switched to a RPO offense on the fly to play to Foles' strengths and compensate for the fact that Foles had been injured all year and no time within the actual offense.
You think ol' Merv would be capable of coaching a backup to play at that level? Pfff...
And c'mon CB, are you Australian now mate?

Even when Brady won his Superbowls, their defensive rankings were:
2001 - 6th in points allowed, 24th in yards
2003 - 1st in points allowed, 7th in yards
2004 - 2nd in points allowed, 9th in yards
2014 - 8th in points allowed, 13th in yards
2016 - 1st in points allowed, 8th in yards

It's too bad they never bring their stats to their Super Bowls. The two SB they lost to the Giants, their D couldn't stop them, simple as that. The SB they won again'st the Falcons, their D (Falcons) flopped in the 2nd half. I'd rather have a good Offense because watching one unable to score and on top of that struggle at getting past 3 and outs is very frustrating.

That's a legit question but Dennard isn't going anywhere this year.

Honestly, Dalton has been pretty amazing in last two years with OG and Bodine starting in each year. ( Og played a lot of RT two years ago as I recall)
Bodine literally got thrown into Dalton's face two or three times each game.
No running game and awful pass pro.
Let's see what Dalton can do with Mixon averaging over 4 yards per carry on a regular basis and a center who is not tossed around on pass plays like he is a high school player.
