It wasn't one of those JUST one of those restructures where they cleared up cap space for the current year. They did indeed move around other money and increase guaranteed money. Now Mahomes handled it well because on the outside he was very content and happy with his previous contract and probably has the juice that he could have made a stink and gotten even more money as the best QB in the NFL.
But behind the scenes he absolutely negotiated with the team to get that extra $43.3m moved to now and all that money guaranteed. His previous deal saw him by FAR become the highest paid QB in the league (a title he held for two straight years) and Mahomes (rightly) was never going to let himself fall out of the top-10 paid QBs.
