It seems to me that when two parties put their signature to a contract, when done of their free will and fully informed, that both parties should honor that contract.
Maybe that's old-fashioned thinking. (And I do see examples nowadays where it's not a stigma to just ignore contracts when one party can gain by doing so. )
Now, what I don't know is if the contact Chase signed requires him to attend practices or not. And I don't know if there was an oral statement by Chase or his agents prior to the signing that they reserved the right to hold out for a better contract if he felt he deserved one. But I doubt either of those cases hold or we would have heard about them.
So, I'm disappointed in Chase, to say the least.
On the other hand, I'm really pleased with Higgins, who didn't have to sign right away and could have been sitting out of practices, but is giving his all. Bengals won't be able to afford him, but I hope he has a great year and earns a great contract elsewhere. He deserves it.
