Katie would be the Owner of the team if anything had changed. While I believe Katie and Duke likely construct most, if not all, of the contracts, she's gotta run the major shit by Daddy to get it off the ground.
MFB also put the muzzle on her as far as the media goes because he has the final say as long as he's breathing. At 89, he's starting to get that "Al Davis" look to him now and it's just shocking that he's the only real voice for the Bengals.
Mike Brown on Chase contract (7/22/24):
“It’s not so likely that this is the good time to negotiate,” Brown said, via Ben Baby of ESPN. “The offseason is a better time for that and we’re going to try to keep focused on the football part." “I’m not going to rule anything out, but I will tell you that the die has probably been cast.”
I think MFB makes Chase wait until next season. If MB wants to keep his money, he will. If he wants to throw it away (Antonio Bryant), he'll do that too. Just my opinion though.
Perhaps Katie has threatened to smother him with a pillow and he's changed. Let us hope.
I think nobody knows about internal discussions or the decision making process...The Bengals front office has never been that voiciferous and just as you may think Brown is this nasty tough old curmudgeon..I would be willing to bet that he is more than happy to realize that his family tradition will carry on with bright daughters and grandchildren..I dont get why some people hang on to the past so much when in fact there has been a very positive and deliberate shift in the way this organization has been run the past 5 years
