No way do we eat his contractespecially if we’re active in free agency, and I highly doubt we find any takers for him unless it’s in a package deal for a big upgrade elsewhere. sort of like adding Suarez to the Castillo deal years ago. If he can get back to his pre-Reds ways, he brings that switch hitting, contact element somewhere to the batting order. That’s what I’m hoping at least, if he stays.
Yea he'll likely play.
You don't have a $15 mill utility backup player.
Luckily, the Reds have room to play Candelario at 1B or DH while adding another bat for the other spot.
Reds could also use a proven RF.
Alternatively, they could shift Steer back to 1B (where I think he's better at anyway) and get a new LF.
Maybe go get Teoscar Hernandez for LF and Anthony Santander for RF, shift Steer to 1B, and have Candelario spot-start in the INF while acting as DH otherwise?
It may be possible to get Hernandez and Santander for $35-40 mill APY or less combined.
Reds should have the payroll to bring both in.
And if Martinez sticks around, their rotation could be Martinez, Greene, Abbott, Lowder, and then Lodolo or whoever as the 5th starter.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.
