Sample isn't. All's injury history makes relying on him foolish. Gesicki did a nicecjob as WR3/TE2, but is a FA.
We need a lot. But if all the A list defensive guys are gone (Graham, Johnson, Carter, Hunter, Starks), as seems likely, and most/all of the B+ guys as well (Wilson, M. Williams, Scourton), then Tyler Warren looks awful tempting if he's still there. Instant #3 option who can also block.
I like ZT's alacrity in getting these spots filled. FA in in 2 months, draft in 3. New guys ate gonna need to get in and evaluate our guys on film, and what is out there.
Allen, Salah, Eberflus, Livingston, Golden, or another NFL assistant, whomever, but get 'em in here. Pronto.
On the broadcast during one of the NFL games this weekend, two of the analysts had Tyler Warren in their Top 5 overall prospects.
He's definitely not a B-tier guy talent-wise, just playing at a devalued position.
But as we've seen with guys like Bowers and Pitts, if you're talented enough, a team will take you in the Top 10-15.
LV is an example of how to properly utilize your elite 1st round TE (8th in the league in receiving yards, 6th in targets).
ATL is an example of how not to (66th in yards, 73rd in targets).
Related note - How awesome would it be to find a way to get Pitts either in a trade this year or in FA next year? Dude only just turned 24 years old.
Maybe keep Gesicki for 1 more year then get Pitts on a multi-year deal next offseason?! (A guy can dream)
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.
