"Young up and comer" is just a euphemism for someone with a lower price tag.
More important than the salary aspect is the strong personality aspect. A proven, experienced DC is going to want some control over his personnel. Whereas with a younger, "yes man" type of coordinator it will be easier for management to tell him to work with what we give you.
